Job Description

Union: Non-Union (2 Positions)
Site: All Sites
Department: Security Operations
Reports to: Director, Security Operations, Fire & Life Safety and UHN Connect
Hours: 37.5/week
Salary: $90,285 to $112,866 annually. (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Mon-Fri 8-4pm. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing environments. Participates in on-call rotation.
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Closing Date: November 14, 2024

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager of Security Operations to lead our team in providing exceptional security services while upholding ethical service. In this role, you will exemplify a commitment to treating all individuals with dignity and respect, fostering a culture of integrity and professionalism within the department.





You will collaborate with senior management to implement strategic plans aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and promoting a safe environment for all members of Team UHN, patients, and visitors.

As a leader, you will oversee the daily activities of the Security Operations team, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. You will conduct investigations, manage departmental finances, and drive continuous improvements in service quality. Your role will also involve developing and introducing technological advancements to enhance operational efficiency, particularly in areas such as CCTV, Access Control, and Incident Reporting systems.

You will manage human resources functions, including hiring, performance evaluations,





and employee development. Your leadership will empower team members to grow professionally while fostering a teamwork-oriented environment that values diversity and inclusivity. You will also be responsible for implementing training programs to ensure all staff are well-equipped to perform their duties safely and effectively.

Duties







- Lead Security Operations - Exemplify a commitment to ethical service by treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
- Strategic Planning - Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategic plans aimed at increasing operational efficiency and reducing labour grievances.
- Operational Oversight - Manage and direct daily activities of the Security Operations team, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Safety Plans - Participates in Safety Plan meetings for members of Team UHN, communicates available Security supports, and implements Security Operations safety measures
- Quality Improvement - Evaluate and apply internal and external quality indicators to enhance security services.
- Investigation Management - Conduct inquiries and investigations related to alleged losses, thefts,





and other security incidents affecting the hospital.
- Technological Advancements - Develop and introduce technological improvements in systems such as CCTV, Access Control, Incident Reporting, and Call Log.
- Risk Assessment - Promote effective security practices within the hospital community by conducting risk assessments and providing expert advice.
- Human Resources Management - Oversee hiring, promotions, and staff development, ensuring a teamwork-oriented environment that values diversity.
- Performance Evaluation - Conduct regular performance appraisals of direct reports and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Financial Management - Collaborate on the unit/department's annual operating budget and monitor financial performance to meet budgeted targets.






- Policy Development - Establish and implement policies and procedures for effective Security Department operations.

Qualifications

- Education - Completion of a degree in Law & Security or a recognized equivalent
- Professional Affiliations - Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator preferred
- Current and valid Security License in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act of Ontario, required.
- IAHSS membership preferred
- Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) certification preferred
- Certification in Legal Awareness and Use of Force, MLEO, Tactical Communications preferred
- Experience - Minimum six (6)





years of practical experience in security operations; experience managing a unionized labour force is preferred.
- Leadership Skills - Proven management and leadership skills, with a track record of fostering a positive team environment.
- Knowledge of Labour Relations - Excellent understanding of labour relations and collective agreements.
- Analytical Skills - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and improve security operations.
- Organizational Skills - Excellent organizational planning, time management, and interpersonal/customer service skills.
- Computer Literacy - Proficiency in relevant computer applications and security systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.






- Ability to work with diverse personalities in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation required.
- Communication Skills - Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
