About the role
We’re looking for a passionate and experienced event professional to join our Broker Marketing and Communications team as an Events Advisor II for a 12 month contract opportunity. The successful candidate will bring 3 to 5 years of planning and executional excellence to create effective and memorable internal and external broker events – delivered virtually, in-person or in a hybrid mix.
As an Events Advisor II, your work will be key to the success of our team and our business. People will count on you to deliver platinum standard corporate events and marketing activities. Working in collaboration with multiple stakeholders across the business, the position’s primary focus will be to lead the development and execution of broker and internal events that create value for our partners and employees. This role interacts with regional and corporate teams, external vendors, and brokers.
This position is a full-time maternity leave contract (12 months) based in our Toronto, ON or Calgary, AB office.
What you'll do here:
- Project lead for corporate events, which could include seminars, conferences, meetings, trade shows, product launches, retreats, travel and appreciation events – note events are delivered either in-person, online (virtually) or a hybrid mix of both
- Coordinate and execute event logistics, which includes venue set-up and communications with regional offices and vendors
- Research and recommend broker and employee events that increase brand awareness, create growth opportunities for brokers and align with corporate goals
- Negotiate event contracts with multiple vendors across a variety of sectors
- Develop project plans, event budgets, marketing material and collateral
- Deliver projects within scope, budget and agreed-upon timelines
- Support other marketing initiatives as needed, including broker marketing and sponsorship opportunities, campaigns, etc.
- Work with other Event Consultants on the team to identify and share best practices
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree or college designation in Marketing & Communication or Events
- 3 to 5 years’ experience specialized in event planning and execution
- Proven experience planning and managing large event budgets using effective negotiation skills
- A growth mindset with previous demonstration of resilience, flexibility, and open-mindedness
- A can-do, positive attitude that shines through in every interaction
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organization,
interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to collaborate and navigate cross-functionally, interacting effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience guiding/coaching/mentoring team members to lift and inspire the working environment of the greater team
- Experience running virtual and hybrid events with high proficiency navigating digital meeting & event platforms e.g. Zoom, Pheedloop, Microsoft Teams, etc.
- Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Available to travel (30%) and work at event venues past normal work hours as required
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset
- Creative, innovative and solution-oriented; can set and lead an events strategy with original, stand-out ideas to maximize engagement internally and externally
- No Canadian work experience required but must have authorization to work in Canada.
