Position Title: Principal Bioinformatics Scientist

Sanofi’s Molecular Biology Centre in Toronto, part of the Analytical Sciences department,
applies molecular biology and bioinformatics in the testing of vaccines and biologicals, typically in preparation for clinical trials. Our team consists of highly competent individuals working together towards these common goals. We continually explore new technologies in order to fulfill our mandate ever more efficiently and effectively, all the while working within a regulated environment.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Design, implementation, builds, validation and maintenance of the Molecular Biology Centre’s scientific computing pipelines on the cloud (“MBC’s pipelines”).
2. Expert troubleshooting and diagnostics of MBC’s pipelines.
3. Deep knowledge and understanding of Linux, git/GitHub/GitLab, Docker, C++, scripting languages, and bioinformatics concepts necessary for the tasks listed above.
4. Functional administration and user training for MBC's pipelines.
5. Interfacing with colleagues on-site and at other Sanofi sites for the harmonization of best practices in bioinformatics.
About You
Education:
1. PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related discipline.
Experience:
1. Minimum 5 years of experience in bioinformatic pipeline development, containers and cloud computing.
2. Expert-level knowledge of *NIX systems, including shell scripting.
3. Proficiency in Python.
4. Working knowledge of C++17 or later, and JavaScript (client- and server-side).
5. Working knowledge of markup/meta-markup languages and data-interchange formats (HTML, XML, JSON).
6. Working knowledge of LaTeX.
7. Experience with the GxP validation of software.
8. Experience working with datasets generated by high-throughput sequencing.
9. Experience with sequence searching, read mapping and multiple sequence alignment, and their corresponding tools.
10. Understanding of biological taxonomy.
