Position Description:

As a member of the Marine Standards team, the Marine Standards Manager – Alternate Fuels is responsible for the effective implementation of the company Management System. In consultation with Director, Marine Standards, develop policies, procedures and objectives in the areas of health, safety, security, incident investigation and emergency response.

Job Responsibilities:

- Develops and implements policies and procedures together with Fleet Management teams on safe handling of Alternate Fuels (ie LNG, Amoinia, Methanol).
- Develops and participates in company’s emergency response team relating Alternate Fuels.
- Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy, and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies,





they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines.
- Develop and recommend health, safety & security policies and procedures consistent with Seaspan’s core values, commitments and goals.
- Consult with Fleet Management teams and other functional groups within Seaspan and provide assistance in improving health & safety performance through development of initiatives and campaigns for meeting the objectives and goals.
- Monitors various maritime security intelligence sources in order to provide timely guidance and support to the company vessels in relation to security development and trends.






- When required conducts onboard incident investigation of significant incidents.
- Participates in the company’s emergency response team and supporting the vessel and Emergency Management Team on behalf of Marine Standards.
- Oversees internal audit planning and recommends for improvement in process efficiency.
- Oversees External Audits/Initiatives and derives lessons learnt.
- When required, conducts vessel internal audits and inspections to ascertain the level of implementation and compliance with company Management System and Environmental Management System.
- Conducts orientation and preparation of senior officers visiting the office.
- Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

- Minimum of three years of experience in a similar role in a ship owner or ship management company.






- Qualifications in auditing and occupational health & safety related disciplines.
- Full understanding of quality management principles and their application and working knowledge of relevant shipping industry regulations, procedures, and instructions.
- Demonstrates leadership and professionalism.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

- Class 1 Certificate – Master Mariner or Chief Engineer.
- Certificate in Basic Training for service on ships subject to IGF code.
- Experience in shipping or containership industry.
- Understanding and experience with ISO management systems.






- Certification to conduct internal audits.

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

- Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice.
- Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections.
- Availability via a mobile device outside of office hours.

Compensation and Benefits package:

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $106,400 - $133,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary,





we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
