Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Controls Lead will oversee project control functions for large infrastructure projects,
ensuring that cost, schedule, and risk management processes are effectively implemented and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires an individual with strong analytical skills, a focus on process improvement, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to support project delivery objectives.
This position is located in downtown Toronto.
What you will be working on:
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of project controls for cost, schedule, risk, and change management across major infrastructure projects.
- Develop, monitor, and analyze project schedules, cost estimates, and project cost forecasts.
- Manage and assess contractor performance, including reviewing and validating change orders,
expenditure approvals, and other project management deliverables.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for executive leadership, project teams, and Board meetings, providing insights into project progress, risks, and performance metrics.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of financial accruals, forecasts, and project budgets to Finance for cost tracking and analysis.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to identify risks, cost variances, and schedule delays, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure that project control systems and tools are effectively implemented, providing training to contractors and internal staff where necessary.
- Contribute to the development of the Project Execution Plan,
providing expertise in project scheduling, resource planning, and risk management.
- Facilitate lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project control processes and performance.
- Ensure compliance with corporate standards and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements, demonstrating leadership in maintaining a safe project environment.
- Support the development of strategies to optimize contractor performance and minimize claims, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration between project teams, contractors, and senior leadership to drive project success.
What We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in project controls, preferably within large infrastructure projects.
- Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCP (Certified Cost Professional) are preferred.
- Proficiency with project control tools and software
- Strong experience in developing detailed cost estimates, project schedules, and resource-loaded plans.
- Proven ability to manage project controls for multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced,
dynamic environment while maintaining a high level of accountability.
