Purpose:

The Director, Demand Planning is part of the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Sales team. They lead the Demand Planning function and play a key role in the Gay Lea Integrated Business Planning process by leading the overall Demand Review step, which drives implementation of business strategies and achievement of business goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management:

- Provides vision, leadership, and priorities for the demand planning team.
- Deploys the demand planning team as an embedded member of the sales team.
- Develop and communicate KPIs to ensure continuous improvement against key metrics and Integrated Business Planning (IBP)





expectations.
- Identify and assign projects to the Demand Planners as appropriate to drive capability growth in the team.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional leaders to develop cross-functional career-paths (e.g., moving from Supply Chain Planning into Demand Planning, or Demand Planning into Commercial Capabilities).
- Lead continuous improvement of processes/tools that the team requires to move the department forward (e.g., D365 Demand Solution).

Demand Planning:

- Oversee the creation, management, ongoing changes to, and communication of the demand plan and impact of key demand drivers to internal stakeholders.
- Ensure the demand plan is appropriately supported with robust assumptions.
- Drive ownership and accountability of key planning inputs with cross-functional partners, and ownership of channel demand plans with the respective Senior Sales Directors.
- Run customer analytics to generate assumptions associated with baseline forecast, promotional lifts, and other activities that would impact Demand.






- Lead the Gay Lea Foods Demand Review step of the Integrated Business Planning process and facilitate consensus conversations to resolve misalignments and disagreements over key planning assumptions.
- Represent Demand Planning in other steps of the Integrated Business Planning process as needed.
- Identify gaps to delivering on business goals (e.g., Budget or Strategic Initiatives), and drive actions with the Sales team to close those gaps.
- Manage Risks and Opportunities to the demand plan, including:
- Oversee identification, documentation, and quantification.
- Ensure risks and opportunities are shared appropriately.
- Drive follow-up actions and resolution of open issues pertaining to Risks and Opportunities.
- Develop “what-if” scenarios, as appropriate,





based on variations in demand assumptions, and work cross-functionally through IBP to understand end-to-end implications of those scenarios.
- Publish the approved demand plan to all internal stakeholders.
- Ensure that the demand plan is appropriately translated into the different views and different levels of detail required by other stakeholders in the business.
- Ensure that within the short-term horizon, the demand plan is appropriately broken down into the weekly buckets required by the production planning team.

Demand Execution:

- Oversee demand plan pacing reports to proactively highlight gaps in forecast that require action.
- Recommend actions as appropriate to resolve gaps, including demand shaping or allocation/prioritization of demand.
- Lead communication of pacing,





inclusive of the “so what, now what” to the Sales team.
- Perform analysis to ensure that customer fine policy and penalties are aligned and valid.
- Actively engage with key customers to challenge inappropriate fines as appropriate.
- Summarize fines data for Sales as necessary.

Annual Planning:

- Leveraging the Integrated Business Planning process as a starting point, provides annual sales input into the corporate annual budget.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure aligned corporate strategies are reflected with appropriate assumptions in the Demand Plan.

Peer connections:

- Build working relationships with our largest Customers supply/demand teams to grow data sharing and improve forecasts.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with Sales, BU Directors, Marketing,





Finance, Commercial Capabilities, Supply Chain, etc.

Supply Capacity and Constraints:

- Accountable for the communication, impact, and allocations with sales on any supply constraints or incremental capacity.
- Oversee communications on short code, insufficient lead times, and other demand related issues that require Sales support.

Expand the scope:

- Take on additional demand responsibilities and personnel as adjacent businesses are integrated into Gay Lea Foods.

Qualifications:

- University Degree mandatory.
- 5+ years of leadership experience, proven track record of coaching and developing teams.
- Strong planning and analytical skills coupled with commercial and/or planning experience.
- Experience in the food industry an asset.






- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Strong project management, creative problem-solving, conceptual thinking, identifying future trends and process improvement.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to inspire and influence others through storytelling and executive presence.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Self-motivated with high energy and the desire to coach others.
- Experience working at CPG companies is preferred.
- Experience working in a matrix organization structure is an asset.
