The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class education for approximately 34,000 students in 87 schools. As part of our strategy to provide on-going support for our schools, the Board is now accepting resumes from qualified applicants for the full-time temporary position Mental Health Clinician.

The purpose of the Mental Health Clinician position is to provide social, emotional,





and mental health assessments, therapeutic counselling support, and case management for student and their families. This position reports to Manager of Counselling Services.

Main Responsibilities:

- Provide evidence-based individual clinical counselling, assessment, and intervention to students presenting with a range of learning, behavioural, and mental health challenges.
- Provide critical incident response coordination, including support to administration, school staff, students and families through individual, school, and classroom-based intervention.
- Provide crisis intervention assessment and support for students who are presenting in crisis.
- Provide suicide risk assessment and intervention,





by responding to reports of students presenting with suicidal ideation and risk, communicating suicidal gestures or statements.
- Participate in risk assessment, intervention and safety planning Violence to determine risk and the development of supportive intervention planning.
- Create, implement and facilitate evidence-based group counselling
- Provide case management support which includes coordinating access management to community resources for students and their families, advocacy for students and families, coordinating support to families by participating in multi-systemic intervention regarding complex and/or high-risk cases and providing caregiver psychoeducation.
- Provide psychoeducation, coaching and case conference support for caregivers.







- Investigation and intervention for students with prolonged school absences and counselling support to students with psychosocial barriers that are impacting on school attendance.

- Prepare and maintain confidential reports and clinical files according to College Reporting standards.
- Attend and actively participate in various committee meetings are required.
- Develops and provides information, resources and in-service presentations for staff, school councils, parent groups and/or community groups.

Supervision: Supervision of staffing groups is not included in this position. This position may include limited supervision and mentoring of social work students.

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor of Social Work.
- Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as a Social Worker, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
- Must be eligible and able to perform psychotherapy as defined under the Act.
- One (1) to three (3) years recent experience providing direct psychotherapy with children/youth

Specialized Skills:

- Excellent clinical assessment, formulation, and treatment planning skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing a broad range of clinical interventions and demonstrated effective work with child and adolescent population that present with a variety of clinically challenging issues.






- Recent training and experience in crisis assessment and intervention.
- Valid drivers’ license and use of vehicle.

School and office environment, with after duty calls; considerable pressure to meet deadlines, considerable travel  Considerable attention to detail, concentration and observation, frequent amounts of dealing with difficult people  Moderate amounts of lifting materials under and over 5 kg

A police records check, with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Pardoned Sexual Offenders Database Search , dated within 6 months prior to the date of hire , is a requirement for employment with this Board. Please note that there have been reports that it has taken some candidates up to 6 weeks to obtain a police check.
