Finance Officer – Catholic Cemeteries
Title: Finance Officer – Catholic Cemeteries
Reporting to: Chief Financial Officer or his delegate
Summary:
The position of Finance Officer – Catholic Cemeteries will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will work out of our Ottawa office located at 1209 Michael St N.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review the Accounts payable batch payments prepared by the Accounts Payable Officer in the accounting system and approve for posting.
- Review the deposits prepared by the Accounts Receivable Officer in the accounting system and approve for posting.
- With the assistance of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Officers, review/complete the monthly bank reconciliations.
- Complete the HST/GST returns on a quarterly basis.
- Review and post the daily and monthly sales reports for all cemeteries currently managed by the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall.
- Post bi-weekly and monthly entries such as payroll, amortization, etc.
- Complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual filings specific to cemeteries.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to be presented to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Perform other related accounting tasks as required.
- Assist with the annual audit, providing support such as working papers and reports to the auditors as requested.
- Assist with any ad-hoc requests.
- Communicate with cemetery representatives where appropriate.
Job Requirements and Skills:
- Degree or diploma in finance, accounting or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in a similar role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual French and English preferred. If not bilingual,
must be willing to take language courses during the employment period if requested.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Ability to read, understand and calculate financial figures such as discounts, interest rates, proportions, percentages, and taxes.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, systems, budgets, and internal controls.
- Demonstrate time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with conflicting deadlines and demands.
- High level of integrity and excellent work ethic.
- Ability to process basic to intermediate functions and formulas in Microsoft Excel.
- Previous experience with accounting systems such as Sage is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the workings of the Roman Catholic Church is an asset.
- Recent Enhanced Police Information Check processed by the Archdiocese.
Job Type:
- Permanent position.
- Full-time – 37.5 hours per week.
- 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break).
- Extended periods of sitting.
- Work in an office environment with individual workstations.
- Location: 1209 Michael Street, Ottawa.
