President and Chief Executive Officer

St. Louis, MO

The institution that is today’s Planned Parenthood began in the early 1900s with a movement to abolish laws prohibiting dissemination of information about sexuality, contraception and human reproduction, leading to the country’s first birth control clinic in 1916.

In 1932, at the height of the Depression, a group of prominent, forward-thinking St. Louis citizens — doctors, ministers, rabbis, and social service workers — gathered to address the issue of “maternal health among the poor.” Concerned about the widespread poverty and suffering of the era, this group envisioned contraception as a way to improve the health of mothers and children and help families escape poverty.

This spirit and commitment to seeking equality and justice persist as Planned Parenthood Great Rivers brings more than 90 years of history providing reproductive health care and information to residents of the St. Louis region and Southwest Missouri — and beyond. PPGR serves more than 30,000 patients each year.

PPGR has an annual budget of more than $23 million and about 150 staff members. Skilled professionals provide confidential reproductive health care for women, men and trans individuals, as well as comprehensive sexuality education in eight health care centers in Missouri and one center in Illinois.

With the national election right around the corner, PPGR is postured to continue the fight. The President & CEO position is an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to employ all of his/her/their skills in management, leadership, partnership, fundraising,

visionary thinking and advocacy for a strong organization composed of a talented and committed leadership team and volunteer Board.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO is responsible for the overall operations of PPGR. These duties include but are not limited to the following: fiscal management; leadership and supervision of staff; risk management and quality assurance; public, community and media relations; strategic planning; and Board relations.

The successful candidate will be a transformational leader with a demonstrated passion for reproductive and sexual health care and education. Proven personal success in fundraising, with an emphasis on major gifts solicitation, is a key requirement. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate fundraising success through active solicitation of contributions from individuals,

foundations and corporations and through development of a supportive, diverse Board of Directors.

Experience in health care or public health is preferable. The successful candidate will exhibit an understanding of the local and national health care environment and provide strategic thought leadership as to how PPGR can capitalize on the ongoing changes for the benefit of both the organization’s financial success and its patients’ health care needs.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate the ability to articulate a compelling vision and to keep people focused during challenging times as well as to invite new partners into the mission.

The candidate must be experienced and comfortable working within a diverse work environment and have either lived experience or demonstrated outreach to diverse communities.

A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university is required. A minimum of 15 years of experience in managing an organization of similar size and complexity, preferably in some aspect of health care, is also required. PPGR prefers candidates with an advanced degree or equivalent experience in management, community/public health, education or social welfare services. A minimum of five years administrative experience required.

The salary range for this position is between $340,000 – 360,000 and will be commensurate with experience. PPGR offers a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to, paid holidays, vacation, group health, vision and dental,

as well as a 403(b) plan.
