The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent part-time Page at the Wheatley Library in the Chatham Kent Library Services division.
Job description
The Page’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the library collections are returned to their proper location. This includes re-shelving, emptying book drops, preparing newspapers for public use, receiving materials from other library locations. This position also provides general clean up duties indoors and outdoors.
Essential responsibilities
- Shelving and shelf-reading of all library material
- Emptying book drop boxes
- Maintaining periodical collections
- General clean up duties inside and outside the library
- Assisting with program set up and preparation
- Actively participating in municipal and library training
- Promoting a welcoming and inviting library environment
- Actively supporting a culture of safety for staff and patrons
- Supporting and connecting residents, including vulnerable people (seniors, children, unhoused, people with complex needs) to library resources and services
- Other duties as assigned on an occasional basis
Essential qualifications
- The successful candidate will currently be 14 years of age or older
- All employees are required to complete their Health & Safety and other online mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and internet (or other similar software programs)
Other qualifications
- Previous experience within a library, particularly a public library, is an asset
- Previous experience in classifying documents (alphabetical, numerical, alphanumerical) an asset
Work environment/hours of work
- This position works mostly indoors
- This position works weekday, afternoon, evening and weekend hours
COVID-19 Vaccination
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Background check requirements
Because of the environment this position works in, the successful candidate is required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment.
Essential physical and/or safety requirements
- Physical stamina, flexibility, good physical health and the ability to lift 11.4 to 15.9 kilograms (25 to 30 pounds) are a necessity,
as is the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel and reach.
- Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling (4.05 to 13.64 kgs or 10 to 30 lbs) (retrieving items, shelving materials, processing material)
- Walking: constant walking on level surface (movement around library, processing, shelving material)
- Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward; constant handling (up to 4.05 kgs or 10 lbs) (books, binders, supplies, shelving material, circulating/ processing material)
- Lifting: frequent lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulder, carrying, transferring pushing below shoulder, pulling below shoulder (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs)
(placing books on shelf or cart; pushing/bulling book cart; lifting book bin; shelving material; retrieving material/supplies; pushing/pulling for circulation process)
- Standing: frequent standing inside (working at circulation desk)
- Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), gripping, pinching, mousing (up to 4.05 kgs or 10 lbs) (keyboarding, lifting books or other papers; circulation; features on the computer)
Benefits
This permanent part-time position has an hourly wage of $17.20 will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
