Working within the context of a multidisciplinary team, and utilizing a patient and family-centered approach, the Social Worker conducts family and mental health assessments of children, and youth, within McMaster Children’s Hospital. The Social Worker provides timely, efficient, and accurate comprehensive mental health assessments and interventions to children and youth. The Social Worker will be required to integrate knowledge of evidence-based treatments into their work, as determined by the patient’s clinical needs and Program goals. The Social Worker contributes to new and ongoing research and quality assurance projects, and provides consultation/liaison to other caregivers and community agencies.





The Social Worker will participate in student education as appropriate, including providing Field Instruction to Social Work students.

Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work
2. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
3. Demonstrated skill in effective crisis management
4. Minimum of one year of recent experience in a pediatric mental health setting.
5. Specific training and a minimum of three years relevant experience in facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational groups for children, youth and parents.
6. Expert knowledge in providing a range of evidence based, therapeutic modalities for the assessment, treatment, and support of children, youth and their families
7. Expert knowledge of community-based resources in mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice within the region.
8. Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Health Care Consent Act,





Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Child, Youth and Family Service Act.
9. Demonstrated expertise and strong knowledge base in the occurrence and range of child and youth mental health disorders and difficulties
10. Demonstrated proficiency in report writing related to assessment, consultation and treatment services
11. Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
12. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills
13. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
14. Fluency in French is an asset
