RESOURCE CONSULTANT – RESOURCE SERVICES - DEAF PROGRAM
One – 1.0 Permanent position available Immediately
(Contract rated under the Provincial Schools Authority)
The Provincial Schools Authority, Resource Services Deaf Program requires a Resource Consultant to join our team. You will provide educational and developmental support to families of Deaf/hard of hearing children from infancy to school age.
Supports provided include: information to parents, community agencies, and school boards regarding languages (American Sign Language and English)
and literacy; mathematics; Deaf culture; educational placements; strategies to enhance students’ language and literacy (ASL and English) skills; have knowledge and understanding of language acquisition and language learning and cultural/social/emotional growth. Knowledge of childhood development will assist you, provide supports and liaison with other department staff/community/resources/professionals/educators.

What we are looking for:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Certification of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
- Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification;
- Fluency in American Sign Language – (American Sign Language (ASL) competency);
- Primary, Junior and Intermediate division qualification.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to use ASL as a language of instruction;
- Ability to write and present educational reports based on assessment (e.g., ASL language and literacy) to school boards, community agencies and provincial schools for the Deaf;
- Understanding of principles of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education;
- Understanding of math assessment, programming, teaching and learning strategies related to math development;
- Understanding of ASL and English assessment, teaching and learning strategies related to language and literacy development that is related to ASL and English pedagogy;
- Ability to support and train adults (e.g., parents and caregivers, school board educators);
- Ability to support classroom teachers of Deaf and hard of hearing students using knowledge of developmental milestones including those of: ASL and English languages, literacy, language, mathematics, well-being, belonging and contributing and language acquisition;
- Ability to present workshops, seminars, training that is related to ASL pedagogy and assessment;
- Ability to support students, families, district school boards, teachers and other stakeholders in ASL assessment and program planning;
- Excellent knowledge of the Education Act, associated regulations and funding related to special education;
- Ability to provide effective leadership;
- Ability to write and present educational reports and facilitate a variety of presentations using excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English (oral and written);
- Demonstrated ability to approach education as part of a team;
- Ability to develop summary reports and other forms of reports based on ASL assessment;
- Ability to support children with multiple exceptionalities;
- Knowledge of and ability to use a range of curricula in home based instruction including Early Mathematics, Early Literacy, CAROLINA, etc and Ontario Curriculum, Policy Documents, and Growing Success;
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
- Excellent observation and assessment skills in ASL and literacy;
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability and willingness to travel to specified areas based on assigned caseload.
