Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered environment. Patient caseload includes the post-surgical adult population with a broad spectrum of medical diagnoses. You will be able to participate in continuous education opportunities and workshops to help further your education.
You will be able to bring your passion for surgical nursing to the department while advocating for patients and caregivers alongside RN’s and RPN’s. Your application submitted will be considered for all three SHN hospitals including, General, Birchmount and Centenary. The departments include 3A Surgery, 3 Central Surgical, CP3 Ortho, 5E Rehab and 5th Level Surgical.

and participates in projects related to care of joint replacement patients and patients with hip fractures

Requirements:
- Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing
- Current BCLS
- 2 years of experience in Acute Medical Nursing or recent related clinical placement experience
- Proven competent IV initiation skill and post-operative monitoring/ assessment
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
- Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
- Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
- Excellent work performance and attendance
Asset:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in surgical nursing preferred
- Experience in wound care preferred
- Ability to speak another language
- Exposure to Lean principles
- Experience in monitoring of PCA pump, intrathecal morphine, epidural infusions
