Job Summary
The Critical Care Program is pleased to offer an internship program pursuant to Article 9.09 of the Local ONA Collective Agreement. This position is posted as Temporary Full Time, and is for twenty-four months (24) in duration. The unit is offering paid tuition and time to attend the Critical Care Certificate Program in partnership with Humber College to Windsor Regional Hospital ONA members. This includes classroom simulation and unit orientation with preceptors and ongoing evaluations. (See Qualifications below)
This program is currently being offered via virtual classroom and does require online attendance as well as placement: this is not a self-directed program.
Successful applicants must be available to attend school for the full duration of 13 weeks.
Reporting to the Program Manager, Intensive Care Unit, Ouellette Campus, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, patient focused nursing care to patients and families.
In collaboration with the family and other team members, the registered nurse is responsible for ongoing assessment and monitoring of the patient’s health status, identification of patient/family needs and the development of plans to meet those needs, the provision of direct patient care and the evaluation of care. The registered nurse also participates in the ongoing professional development of self and others, and in unit and hospital wide quality improvement initiatives. The registered nurse is responsible for the application of current theory and research in the delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations.
The registered nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications
- 5 years of current Critical Care (ICU, CCU Cath Lab)/Emergency Room experience; required;
OR
- 5 years of Medical/Surgical nursing experience in acute care; required

Education/Training Experience
- Current Certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario - required
- B.C.L.S. certification – required
- ACLS - preferred
- Successful completion of the Critical Care Orientation Program within three months of transfer – required
