Job Title: Director, Quality & Compliance; QAP
Location: Pickering, ON
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM
Compensation Range: $115,000.00 per annum
About the role:
CannaPiece Corp. is seeking a Director, Quality & Compliance, who also will serve as QAP. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Director, Quality & Compliance will maintain the Quality Management System to support the company’s business operations and manufacturing processes in compliance with the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations. This role works closely with the Operations team to ensure compliance in the development, and continuous improvement, of processes, as well as the day-to-day function of ensuring that quality standards are met and product is released.
The ideal candidate has experience managing Quality functions and has been approved as a QAP by Health Canada. The successful candidate will be efficient, detail-oriented, business-minded, and able to manage their time effectively. They will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and must be able to adapt to changing business needs while performing a variety of tasks and working with multiple stakeholders, internal and external, while managing a QA team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the efficiency of QMS for purchasing, processing, and packaging activities.
- Perform all functions required of a QAP as part of a cannabis operation and Health Canada-licensed LP.
- Establish, implement, and enforce quality standards; inspect and test materials/products to ensure quality and precision.
- Plan, implement,
and manage compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards for manufacturing and production processes.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external specifications, standards, SOPs, and applicable regulations.
- Monitor process control points and eliminate errors in Preventive Control Plans.
- Oversee product integrity, including annual and semi-annual inventories, and investigate variances.
- Oversee sampling, testing, retention of raw materials, and finished goods; manage product release/rejection and evaluation methods.
- Implement in-process product inspection standards; devise testing methods for manufacturing.
- Assist in investigating suspicious matters, managing returned products, and handling inventory/stock.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Ensure Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and maintain control over technical documents and SOPs.
- Design inspection and testing methods for evaluating production processes, equipment, and products.
- Perform internal and vendor audits; actively participate in external audits and address issues as a main point of contact from QA.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and recommend updates to quality standards.
- Support product areas in data analysis and participate in engineering design reviews for quality input.
- Develop, recruit, train, and manage the QA team; create department efficiencies and provide leadership.
- Communicate effectively within the organization and assist with employee training.
- Ensure QA operational requirements by scheduling, assigning employees, and following up on results.
- Maintain communication with heads of Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
- Participate in production and management meetings.
- Maintain professional knowledge through education, publications, and networking.
- Uphold company mission and ethical standards, leading by example.
- Perform other ad hoc operational tasks as required.
Job Requirements:
- Degree or diploma from an accredited institution (university or college) is required
- Previous experience in a QA role and as a QAP or AQAP in a GPP-regulated environment
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, address multiple issues,
and handle multiple deadlines, in a hands-on environment
- Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and sense of urgency.
- Experience in writing SOPs, deviations, investigations, non-conformances, and change management documents
- Previously demonstrated solid decision-making, training, and monitoring skills
- Experience managing a team.
- Strong computer skills including the use of ERP system, QMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Google applications.
- Strong leadership skills and a business-minded ability to think and act strategically and under pressure
- Effective communicator, able to multitask with analytical focus and attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Efficient, detail oriented,
and able to manage their time effectively
- Previous experience working in a cannabis LP
Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
