About Frontlines

Started as a drop-in centre that focused primarily on music in Weston, a small community in Toronto Ontario, Frontlines now offers a variety of programs to hundreds of children and youth in surrounding communities, youth from across the Greater Toronto area and recently youth from across Canada. Our youth face a number of issues ranging from crime, poor educational systems, lack of youth engagement resources, child and youth hunger and poverty. Our programs and services serve six to 29 year olds and range from homework clubs to employment programs; all of Frontlines’ programming serves as a building block for children and youth to feel valued, empowered, and create a greater sense of connection.

Job Summary:

Building on the success of the past leaders of the organization, Frontlines is at a critical point in its life cycle. As such, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce the search for a new leader as the Chief Executive Officer of Weston Frontlines Centre, best known as Frontlines.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for establishing and executing major goals and objectives for the organization. They will implement policies established by the Board. The CEO will provide leadership,





direction and guidance of Frontlines’ activities and analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of all organizational operations. They will develop and maintain the organizational structure and effective personnel, coordinate major activities through subordinates and appraise assigned personnel. The CEO represents Frontlines to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, and the general public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Board Engagement (10%)

- Works with the Board of Directors on governance policy issues by providing support and initiating approved recommendations or actions.
- Identifies and advises the Board on emerging issues and priorities in the external environment that impact the program.
- Ensures development,





design and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that further the organization's strategic directions.
- Directs and oversees short and long-term strategic plans.

Public Relations (5%)

- Acts as the spokesperson for the organization
- Provide places and events for the community to gather after a community tragedy
- Pursues opportunities to promote Frontlines in the broader community
- Creates a platform for promotion (focus on programming and as community experts), including but not limited to speaking events, media appearances/interviews, teaching opportunities, written publications
- Oversees issues of branding and brand development, including all publications, website and social media

Administration/HR (20%)







- Provides leadership to organization personnel including any HR consultants, through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.
- Provides program management staff with direction, guidance, processes and tools to improve the effectiveness of the programs.
- Ensures administrative staff remains current to organization business and Board directives/approvals that affect their functions and areas of responsibility.
- Ensures compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the organization’s role as an employer and non-profit agency.
- Ensures HR policies and procedures are communicated, understood and practiced in a fair and equitable fashion.






- Oversees the preparation of office procedure manuals, outlining specific duties and area responsibilities.
- Develops, maintains, and updates job descriptions pertinent to the organization.
- Conducts performance appraisals as required.
- Determines staff training and/or equipment needs, taking into account annual budget allocations.
- Develops, analyzes and reports on program-related metrics to enhance program performance.

Financial (25%)

- Maintains full awareness of the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records of the organization.
- Work with the Board and Treasurer to develop and maintain a yearly budget.
- Ensures that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and the control of operating expenses within budget.






- Works with the Treasurer to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting.
- Makes strong recommendations for software and/or external financial service providers to enhance ability to deliver Finance Objectives.
- Manages any external Financial service providers as required.

Fundraising (40%)

- Responsible for Frontlines fundraising programs, including capital, operations and special funds (including staff and program-specific funding).
- Sets and maintains fundraising goals and supports staff in reaching these goals.
- Personally meets regularly with major donors and develops relations with new potential donors.






- Grant and Proposal Writing - In collaboration with the Programs Manager identify programmatic and facility needs and coordinate the development of grant and proposal applications.
- Fundraising events – develop and implement with support staff, including Fundraising Galas.
- Develop and execute direct mail that engages donors and shares stories of transformation.
- Develop systems and policies for donor development and cultivation (including recognition programs) and donation processing that promote Frontlines’ value of good stewardship.
- Communicate regularly with donors to ensure transparency.
- Maintain and update donor databases.

Qualifications

- 5-7 years experience working at a senior management level.
- Educational background in community development, social work, or fundraising (or equivalent combination of experience and education).






- Strong financial management experience.
- Strong leadership and team building skills.
- Relevant experience leading a senior management team.
- Experience with Workplace Culture initiatives.
- Proven strong fundraising experience.
- Experience in grant/proposal writing.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work with communities of diverse backgrounds.
