Your Opportunity:

The Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Nurse has a leadership role in the province-wide CDC program within the Population, Public, and Indigenous Health (PPIH) Division of Alberta Health Services and reports directly to the designated CDC program Associate Manager. Responsibilities include frontline accountability for both communicable notifiable diseases and immunization content. The CDC nurse is a subject matter expert that provides direction and leadership to colleagues and key partners that have a role in managing communicable notifiable diseases, outbreak investigations, blood and body fluid exposures (BBFE) and immunization service delivery. Under the authority of the Medical Officer of Health,





the CDC nurse is the clinical nurse lead/educator and expert resource to support Zone Medical Officers of Health and provides leadership and direction to Zone Public Health staff in public health investigation and follow up of notifiable/non-notifiable diseases and outbreak management in community settings as mandated under the Alberta Public Health Act. The CDC nurse is also an expert resource to support immunization programs for public health staff, community providers and the general public. Through quality assurance efforts and in collaboration with Public Health Managers/Operations staff, the CDC nurse provides direction and recommendations for action based on best practice in service delivery of immunizations. The CDC nurse work schedule may include evening/weekend hours to provide MOH CDC support on-call after routine business hours functioning as the primary MOH designate with responsibility to action or provide direction to colleagues and key stakeholders as required to manage urgent response to notifiable disease events,





non-notifiable disease incidents (e.g. BBFE investigation, post-exposure rabies prophylaxis) and immunization.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE:





Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:







Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Registered Nurse with 2 years' experience in the last 5 years at the equivalent of a 0.50 FTE or greater in the Alberta zone Public Health program. Minimum 1 year of experience in the last 5 years with practical application of the Alberta Provincial immunization program, schedule, and standards within the zone Public Health Program. Ability to think critically in assessing and executing complex deliverables with minimal supervision and without standardized scripting. Ability to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities in a complex change-oriented environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Computer proficiency with the ability to use multiple applications simultaneously in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Experience with immunization/CDC databases (CD/OM, Meditech, Netcare, Redcap)





and software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
