Based in Sudbury, the Land Use Planner will report to the Planning Manager and will have a wide range of duties on a variety of land use planning projects.
What You’ll Do:
The Land Use Planner will be part of the TULLOCH Engineering team. You will:
1. Work on both large and small development projects throughout northern and central Ontario
2. Lead development proponents through the Planning Act process
3. Lead Public Consultation meetings and presentations to Committees of Adjustment or Municipal Councils in support of Planning Act applications
4. Prepare Planning Act applications for Consent, Minor Variance, Zoning By-Law Amendments (Rezoning), Official Plan Amendments, Plan of Subdivision/Condominium, and Site Plan Control
5. Prepare Planning Justification Reports, assist in preparing for Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) hearings, and prepare and submit various application packages and supporting documentation
6. Add value to land through critical thinking and rigorous policy analysis
7. Work with municipalities on strategic planning policy projects
8. Undertake Official Plan review exercises and municipal needs analyses
9. Liaise with other professionals,
municipalities, and government agencies
10. Build client relations
11. Use AutoCAD and other design applications

Who You Are:
You have 3-5 years experience working in a land use planning and development role, either in the private sector or at the municipal level. You have working knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, municipal Official Plans, and Zoning or Development Permit By-Laws. Full membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred. Eligibility for full membership with OPPI within 1 year is required at a minimum.
You make decisions and exercise independent judgment within defined parameters and in alignment with business objectives. You can pivot and alter approach to accomplish desired results.
What You Should Bring:
The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning or other related program. Additionally, you should have:
1. High motivation with results-oriented focus
2. Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
3. Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including analysis and negotiation skills
5. Proficiency in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
6. A valid Class G driver’s license
