Job Description

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest academic health sciences centre dedicated to mental health and addiction. Research in the Pre-Clinical and Molecular Science departments is focused on diverse interests, including clinical treatment trials, brain imaging, genetics, epigenetics and translational models of mental health and addictions. A notable goal is to enhance synthesis among these domains and among researchers and their staff, which is one of the several critically important roles for the Research Operations Manager. Additionally, the successful candidate will ensure that appropriate administrative structures are in place to support all the scientists in the area.







Reporting to the Director, People, Space and Integrity, and the Scientific Directors of Molecular Science and the Brain Health Imaging Centre, the full-time, permanent Research Operations Manager will support ongoing research activities for molecular and pre-clinical scientists, including:

1. Oversight of day-to-day activities of lab managers, research managers and research staff.
2. Providing overall support and coordination to scientists and physicians in executing and managing research studies in the centre.
3. Ensuring compliance of research personnel with CAMH institutional and research policies, procedures and regulations.
4. Overseeing all human resources inquiries, including recruitment, onboarding, staff training, daily supervision of all staff, and performance management.
5. Overseeing staff and proactively identifying staff training needs, professional development needs and performance management.
6. Liaising with necessary internal and external stakeholders regarding project deliverables.
7.





Assisting scientists in securing funding through internal and external competitions.
8. Monitoring key performance indicators, and supporting quality and safety initiatives.
9. Creating budget forecasting, monitoring of budgets, preparing and submitting scientific and financial progress reports.
10. Negotiating and establishing contractual agreements.
11. Collaborating with study investigators and stakeholders.
12. Coordinating and facilitating current and new research projects.
13. Assisting in writing new grants and protocols.
14. Adhering to and meeting REB and ACC and regulatory requirements.
15. Overseeing and managing all aspects of clinical trials including multi-site projects including participant recruitment, enrollment,





and study protocols.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Research Operations, Services and Support Office, and will collaborate with other CAMH departments, to ensure alignment of research operations, meet and maintain institutional, regulatory standards and department requirements including: Biosafety, Safety, Contract Development, Research Ethics Board, Animal Care Committee, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Support Services.

As a key member of the team, the successful incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively on projects with cross-functional teams, both internally and externally. The incumbent will champion and lead initiatives that support a workplace that embraces diversity,





encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable policies, procedures and legislation. This position is located at 250 College Street, with travel between sites, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

You will possess a Masters degree in a research related field in the mental health domain (e.g. psychology, neuroscience, etc.) and at least five (5) years of relevant research operations experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities. You will possess a good understanding of the Canadian and U.S. grant funding landscape.

The candidate will have demonstrated experience in hospital/grant accounting and reporting as well as proven analytical, organizational, conceptual, and decision-making skills in a dynamic fast-paced environment.





Experience managing staff is required and management in a unionized environment is an asset. The candidate will possess superior leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal. Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are an asset. Candidates will be proficient in the following software applications: Access, Excel, RedCap, or other database softwares.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
