Appleby College Camp Programs are accredited by the Ontario Camps Association (OCA). As a member, we must adhere to the highest standards of safety, supervision, and quality programming.
The Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the Appleby Summer Camp programs. Reporting to the Assistant Camp Director, this position involves helping out with all camps utilizing laptops and MAC labs, setting up activities/equipment, assisting with instructing if needed, and sign-out laptops.
WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT THIS JOB:
- Act as a liaison between Appleby I.T. (information technology) team and Appleby Camps
- Assist Instructors with troubleshooting any computer issues, assist in any repairs if needed
- Assist with proper inventory count for sign-out laptops and all A/V equipment
- Ensure Attendance system runs smoothly daily
- Check on all camps proactively with laptops in order to assist with any technical issues while in camp programs
- Prepare to float between camps, and instruct any science/media camp, with limited notice if an instructor is absent
- Assist Head Instructors in activities within each camp category, ensuring children are engaged throughout their camp experience
- Ensure compliance to Appleby’s camp procedures and protocols
- Assist with co-hosting cross-camp games and activities
- Participate in ensuring that lunches run smoothly and assist with clean up and camper traffic flow in the dining hall
YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
- Have completed min.
second year post-secondary education and have thorough knowledge & previous experience in computer science or have an I.T. related degree
- Work well independently and have a strong work ethic
- Can demonstrate strong organizational capabilities
- Are tech savvy with computers, robotics, cameras, software and video game design
- Have knowledge of (or be willing to learn)
- Robotics software (NXT, LEGO® ROBOLAB™ )
- Video game design and software options (e.g. Scratch, Kudo, Game-maker)
- Coding - Python programming language
- Graphics software including Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro and iMovie
- Are able to mentor young staff to work effectively with children and youth in a camp setting
- Possess relevant work experience developing and supervising junior/senior camps and teaching experience in camp or educational environments
- Love STEM subjects and are knowledgeable and passionate about the area
- Have valid Standard First Aid and CPR – C or higher
- Possess a valid driver’s license
WORK SCHEDULE
- Training & Pre-Camp
- Friday May 30, 2025-Evening
- Saturday May 31 and Sun June 1, 2025-Full Day
- Saturday June 14, 2025-Full Day
- Sunday June 15, 2025- Full Day
- Camp Session Dates & Hours
- Camp Work: as assigned Monday June 16 to Friday Aug 29 (excluding June 30 and holidays)
- Monday to Friday 8:15am to 4:15pm
- Mandatory Orientation Meeting First day of each Week 7:30-8:15am
