HOURS OF WORK: The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class, who will provide leadership and promote excellence in patient/family-centered nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, and consultation. The NP will be responsible for providing direct patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, and coordination of community and other resources.
The NP will participate in continuous evaluation activities to facilitate integration of the NP role in the program and practice setting.
The NP role will work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide advanced nursing care, assess and treat patients needing care in the Mental Health & Addictions Crisis Response Unit (CRU) as well as for admitted patients in the CRU Short Stay Unit. Additional accountabilities may be negotiated with the NP and program leadership.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Current Certificate registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario in the extended class required
- Completion of an adult or primary Health Care NP program required
- Demonstrated expertise and experience with the provision of assessment, treatment interventions, health teaching, and supportive counselling for mental health and addictions patients.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
- Membership in the Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) organizations relevant to the role required
- Current and ongoing certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
- Successful completion of the College of Nurses approved education to prescribe controlled substances required.
- Three to five years related clinical experience required
- Master’s degree in nursing preferred
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with patients, families, physicians, and other team members.
- Demonstrated leadership in the advancement of clinical practice and the achievement of program goals.
- Demonstrated use of theory and research/evidence-based outcomes in practice.
- Ability to work independently, be self-directed, and achieve activities within timeliness.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Excellent decision-making, problem recognition, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Assess, manage and direct comprehensive patient care within their scope of practice, as defined by the College of Nurses, Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses in the Extended Class (RN EC).
- Professional and quality practice within the emergency and mental health & addictions departments.
- Implements strategies to promote health and prevent illness with individuals, families, and groups.
- Ensures the standards related to patient care are met and incorporates safe working conditions and practices in the emergency department.
- Communicates effectively with all health care disciplines and demonstrates leadership behaviour which builds a positive identity within the organization.
- Complies with hospital policies and procedures, participates with ongoing health and safety education.
- Promotes and supports patient advocacy.
- Promotes amongst nurses an instinct for public relations through their demeanour in addition to their quality work.
