Job Description:

Position Overview:
SHN’s surgical service is one of the largest in the province, performing over 50,000 procedures annually.

Surgical specialties we offer include:

- Orthopedics
- General Surgery
- ENT
- Dental
- Gynecology
- Ophthalmology
- Urology
- Plastics
- Spine
- Vascular

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing excellent patient and family centred care to a diverse patient population in Level I (PACU) recovery. You will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families,





based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing of Scarborough Health Network. Your application submitted will be considered for all three SHN hospitals PACU department including, General, Birchmount and Centenary.

- Your customized orientation will take place over 4 weeks and will be followed by a meeting with your Clinical Practice Leader to ensure all of your learning goals are met.
- Ongoing Skill Advancement: In-house courses and workshops to advance skills like wound care and ACLS certifications. Our surgical program is a part of the Total Joint Network, and participates in projects related to care of joint replacement patients and patients with hip fractures

Requirements:

- Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
- Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) plus PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Critical Care Certification / PACU certification
- 2 years recent critical care experience in an acute care setting (Within the last 5 years)
- Current PACU experience
- Ability to function both independently and as a team member in a fast paced demanding environment
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills






- Commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
- Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
- Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record
