Advanced Educational Support - Pitawani (LASP)

We are excited to have an Advanced Educational Support opportunity available immediately.

Lethbridge School Division embraces diversity and functions in a dynamic, innovative, and fast paced environment. To help support student success, we are looking for a flexible, empathetic, optimistic, and patient individual to work as part of a dynamic team. Advanced Educational Support (AES)

personnel work as members of the school-based learning team to assist classroom and learning support teachers in providing specialized supports to students with complex learning needs.

What will you do?

Pitawani School is an integral component of Child and Family Services' Sifton Children's Centre - a treatment centre that works to meet the needs of youth, ages 13-18. The program provides a residential treatment opportunity for up to 10 students at a time, with varying lengths of stay. The student population is comprised of youth whose safety and well-being have been severely compromised due to their environmental, familial, and/or societal context, often resulting in an inability to maintain safety for self and/or others in an unsupported setting. As such, Pitawani School seeks to meet the educational needs of all students within the supported program using a trauma informed approach and delivering curricular learning combined with experiential opportunities for growth and development.

An AES is required to provide supports and services in a flexible,

coordinated and effective way. The AES will work collaboratively with the Pitawani teachers and administrative team, to develop programming goals that focus on behaviour, academics, communication and social skills. The individual will work as part of a team and independently to implement programming and supports as identified by the team. This includes working with other staff in meeting the personal and social care needs of individuals and promoting their well-being in a way that values the dignity of the individual and promotes choice, respect, participation and independence. The AES in the Pitawani School will actively participate in the consultation and creation of student plans, such as behaviour support and individualized program plans. Therefore,

the successful candidate will have specialized skills, training, and/or experience in the areas of trauma informed practice, conflict resolution, family support access, or advanced behavior supports.

Lethbridge School Division makes every effort to ensure staff and student safety, but not every unsafe behavior on the part of students can be anticipated. Students may display challenging/impulsive behaviors including hitting, kicking, spitting, biting, throwing items, poor attention, and difficulty making transitions.

Please note that only those selected for further consideration will be contacted regarding an interview.

What will you work?

29.0 - 30.50 hours/week

Monday to Friday

**Attendance in consultation meetings outside of the normal workday will be required and incorporated into the paid hours of service.
