The Team

Provincial Centralized Screening provides province-wide child protection screening services in a fast paced, 24-7, rotating shift work environment. There are multiple teams of dedicated social services workers including Directors of Operations, Team Leaders, Child Protection Workers, Support Workers and Social Program Officer Assistants. The services provided by Provincial Centralized Screening have a direct impact on the well-being of children, youth and families throughout British Columbia.

The Role

This is a challenging and meaningful role for a fully qualified child protection worker with C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act.

Qualification:
Education and Experience:

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
- In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).





You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

2. Expanded Credentials:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
- PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

- All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.

JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED AND EXPANDED CREDENTIALS):

- Experience working with and planning for children and youth in a child and family service agency that provides legislated services (child protection, guardianship, resources,





family support or adoption). This may include progressive responsibility in legislated child and family services in an agency and/or managing/supervising a team of employees who work in child and family services.

RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE (EXPANDED CREDENTIALS ONLY):

The minimum 1-year required RELATED work experience may include experience working with children, youth, families, or adults in any one or a combination of the following settings:

- A child and family service agency that provides legislated services (child protection, guardianship, resources, family support or adoption);
- A social services agency on an Indigenous reserve, providing direct support services;
- A family services agency that provides assessment and counselling services;






- A contracted agency providing assessment, counselling and family support services;
- A specialized care setting for vulnerable adults, children, or youth that also involves direct work with families;
- A policing, probation or corrections setting;
- A mental health or healthcare setting providing assessment and counselling services;
- An education setting undertaking assessment and counselling services;
- A social services agency providing services to people with diverse abilities and vulnerable adults;
- A provincial agency dedicated to promoting safe and healthy workplaces providing services and support for injured workers.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

- Current C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA)





OR Candidates who had C6 delegation and worked in a delegated child protection position in BC within the past 2 years.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

- Applicants with preferred education credentials
- 2 or more years of current employment as a Child Protection Worker (SPO-CP 24R).
- Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
- A Child Welfare Specialization from an accredited British Columbia university and who have completed their practicum in a child welfare setting.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Proviso:

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e.





from another Canadian Province).

WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

- This position requires shift work. Current rotating shift pattern: 4 days on, 3 days off, 8.75 hours per shift. The shift patterns apply to a 24/7 schedule which includes Daytime, Evening and Weekend Shifts. As per the relevant collective agreement provisions on paid holidays and dependent on schedules, staff will earn hours toward additional leave. In addition, there may be opportunities for overtime, or alternatively, compensatory time off.
- Provincial Centralized Screening is a hybrid work setting; however, staff must be able to work in-office on immediate notice if requested under the requirements of the Business Continuity Plan or when operationally required.





It is important that you live near your designated office to meet this requirement when needed.
- Travel, as necessary, is a requirement; therefore, transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the ministry.
- May be required to travel in adverse (reasonable) weather conditions.
- May be required to use your own vehicle, with appropriate insurance, on an expense account basis.
- Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants who re-apply within 6 months of a previous unsuccessful CPW final assessment (reference check) may not be eligible for further consideration.

About this Position:
Flexible work options: this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week as per an approved Telework Agreement.
Currently we have multiple full time permanent positions available with Provincial Centralized Screening.
This position can be based at any location listed above.
