Job Details:

Position Title: Part-time Professor – Critical Conversations in Indigenous Determinants of Health in Canada

Status: Part-time teaching contract (multiple positions), Winter and Summer 2025 semester (1-6 hours per week)

Hours: Daytime, evenings and/or Weekends may be required, based on course schedules and specific teaching assignment.

Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing and PSW Programs

Campus/Location: North campus, in-person

Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.

What you will do:

As part of our commitment to Indigenous Education,





and in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action # 7, 12, 22, 23, and 24, As indicated in the TRC Calls to Action, at a baseline level, it is essential that students develop an understanding of determinants that support Indigenous peoples’ health and wellness including culturally responsive strengths-based interventions and culturally safe care. This requires students to move beyond baseline awareness of historical/contemporary impacts of colonialism to a recognition of systems-based strengths and inadequacies and interventions that address health inequities experienced by Indigenous peoples. Specifically nursing school students have been required to take a course dealing with Aboriginal health issues including skill based training in intercultural competency,





conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism. To meet this requirement the Humber Bachelor of Science - Nursing program offers a stand-alone course called Critical Conversations in Indigenous Determinants of Health in Canada. We are looking for an indigenous nurse to teach this course.

The successful candidate will have experience effectively weaving Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing in the classroom, as well as demonstrated capacity to build and/or support Indigenous research, scholarly or artistic work, broad curriculum development, land-and-culture based pedagogic practice.

What you bring to the role:

Education:

· All applicants must clearly identify their eligibility to apply including individuals who self-identify as Indigenous, Inuit and Métis.







· A Graduate Degree in Nursing achieved or in progress.

Experience:

· Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

· A minimum of 5 years of nursing practice experience .

· Experience teaching in post-secondary education.

In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion,





be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
