The Alberta Human Rights Commission has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination.





It fulfills this mandate through public education and community initiatives, through the resolution and settlement of human rights complaints, and through human rights tribunal and court hearings.

The Commission’s website albertahumanrights.ab.ca provides the public—including employers, service providers, tenants and landlords, individuals, communities, and others—with information about human rights law, its application, the human rights complaint process, and preventing discrimination, as well as broader human rights principles.

Role Responsibilities

If so, the Alberta Human Rights Commission has an exciting opportunity for you to join their dynamic team as the Manager, Outreach and Engagement.

As the Manager,





Outreach and Engagement you will be responsible for the strategic planning and ongoing management of the Commission’s outreach and engagement, including providing support to community, as per the Human Rights Education Multiculturalism Fund (HREMF).

A major focus of your role is to enhance linkages and partnerships with key stakeholders across the province, as well as with other orders of government, public institutions, community organizations and funding agencies, to facilitate a coordinated effort to promote diversity and equality and to prevent racism and discrimination throughout Alberta. You will play an integral role in policy development and issues management to advance human rights in Alberta.

Your main responsibilities will include:

- Developing and implementing the HREMF strategic plan that reflects HREMF and Commission priorities,





as well as input from key stakeholders across the province.
- Establishing and administering the HREMF grants program.
- Coordinating a grant review committee and liaising with the committee, who makes recommendations for the distribution of funds.
- Developing and maintaining a network of stakeholders to ensure that the overall HREMF strategic direction, programs, and services meet the needs of stakeholders, as well as program priorities, and that the Commission is providing effective support to community.
- Overseeing the stakeholder engagement strategy for the Commission
- Engaging with stakeholders to understand current human rights issues and trends to inform the Commission’s programs and services, including the HREMF grant program.
- Developing, implementing,





and evaluating strategies, programs, services, and resources to address human rights issues and trends.
- Leading the Commission’s public policy work to advance human rights in Alberta.
- Providing advice and consultation to organizations, other levels of government, other funders, and ministries
- Overseeing HREMF reporting and annual audits.
- Providing advice to the Director of Communication, Education and Engagement, senior management, and government officials on funding recommendations and issues related to the HREMF.
- Supervising and providing direction to the outreach and engagement team who provide policy and program implementation under the HREMF.






- Working collaboratively with CEE managers to align work and broaden the reach of education and engagement programming.
- Actively contributing to the Commission’s management team, providing leadership on implementing Commission goals and priorities, ensuring alignment with outreach and engagement strategies

Qualifications

A university degree in a relevant discipline, such as community development, public policy, human resources, social work, social sciences, or communications. Plus,





four years of progressively responsible experience in a funding environment and management experience.
1 year’s relatable education to 1-year relatable experience will be considered equal totaling 8 years.

The ideal candidate will possess the following assets:

- Experience engaging with various stakeholders and customizing tailored engagement methods based on stakeholder preferences and needs.
- Experience with program management, including program design, development, implementation, budgeting, communication, reporting, and evaluation.
- Experience developing, administering, and identifying best practices in risk-managed granting.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.

Location: This position can be based out of Edmonton or Calgary.

This position is a full time, temporary role for four (4) years.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
