The Corporation of the City Of Brantford requires a Water Treatment Operator for its Water Operations Division to operate the Holmedale Water Treatment Plant and Residual Management Facility (RMF). Reporting to the Superintendent, Water Treatment and Compliance,
the Water Treatment Operator will be required to:
- Monitor, control, and respond to alarms for the water treatment process, water distribution system (reservoirs, pumping stations, and elevated tanks) and Residual Management Facility (RMF) using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA).
- Analyze, monitor and inspect water treatment and RMF processes and equipment (pumps, motors, filters, chlorinators, thickeners etc.) to ensure processes are operating within operational guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Make adjustments as required to optimize the water treatment process (production levels, chemical dosing, disinfection (primary, UV and secondary) and filtration) based on interpretation of analytical data trends
- Make adjustments as required to optimize the RMF process (chemical dosing, sludge wasting cycles, belt press operation) based on interpretation of analytical data trends
- Read and record data from instruments that measure plant chemicals flows, production flows, reservoir and tank levels, chlorine, turbidity, pressure and other important parameters
- Conduct routine water quality analyses at the water treatment laboratory (chlorine, UV254, pH, ammonia, total suspended solids (TSS) etc.)
Qualifications
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certifications)
- Two (2) year college diploma in Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma or an equivalent related discipline
- Applicant must have a valid Water Treatment Class 1 or higher issued by Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP). Alternatively an applicant with a valid MECP Operator in Training (OIT) certificate in Water Treatment will be considered. Successful completion of the MECP Entry-Level Course for Drinking Water Operators will be considered an asset.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements, including but not limited to the following as it relates to a Class IV Water Treatment subsystem:
- Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002
- O.Reg. 169/03, Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards
- O.Reg. 170/03, Drinking Water System
- O.Reg. 128/04, Certification of Drinking Water System Operators and Water Quality Analysts
- Procedure for Disinfection of Drinking Water in Ontario
- Working knowledge of Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS)
- Municipal Drinking Water Licenses (MDWL) Drinking Water Works Permits (DWWP)
Demonstrated ability to:
- Identify problems; develop and evaluate options; and implement solutions utilizing reason, judgment, and prescribed resources
- Interpret and analyze data; identify challenges or opportunities; and make recommendations
- Interpret and apply policies and procedures and use reason and judgment to develop conclusions or solutions to problems
- Perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate and division goals, vision, mission, and values
- Intermediate time management, organizational, record-keeping, written communication, interpersonal, verbal communication, analytical,
problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Basic computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word), SCADA (iFIX), Microsoft SharePoint and the Internet
- Exert effort to lift up to 50lbs., pushing, pulling, or carrying objects for short periods of time
- Bend, crouch, and kneel as well as a combination of sitting, standing and walking
- Work within a shift team on a 12 hour shift rotation. Coverage is required 24/7 both day and nights including weekends and statutory holidays
- Fulfill role of Operator in Charge (OIC) and Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) when appropriately licensed and trained.
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing
