POSITION SUMMARY
Better Living Health and Community Services has a temporary full-time (to March 31, 2026) opening for the position of Nurse Manager. This position will be responsible for working in partnership with the Director of Care to support the management and oversight of clinical staff and residential care services at Margaret Bahen Hospice.
This position reports to Vice President, Hospice Palliative Care.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing, Masters preferred
- Current Registered Nurse Certificate of Competence Issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Canadian Nurses Association's current certification in Hospice Palliative Nursing Care (CHPCN) preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably within a hospice palliative care setting
- Minimum 2 years of management experience including leadership, administration, supervision of staff, program development/evaluation, risk management, health and safety
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, make appropriate decisions, and accept responsibility for outcomes
- The ability to work flexible hours and be part of an on-call rotation
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Strong assessment, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication and ability to provide clear direction
- Consultative team-based management style
- Experience in conducting program evaluation
- Experience working with families and residents' care
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, computer skills, and familiarity with AlayaCare or another electronic medical records system
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- In keeping with the organization’s mission, vision, and beliefs,
and the philosophy and values of hospice palliative care, support a culture of Client/Resident centred service that promotes an integrated approach to care, compassion, and dignity.
- Demonstrate a consultative management style in the planning, organization, and supervision of the activities of the Clinical, Environmental, and Food Services departments.
- Demonstrate a highly developed ability to listen; communicate goals; and share knowledge and experience with residents and their families.
- Support the medication management system of the hospice in accordance with best practice standards and legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee all aspects of Resident care, including but not limited to:
1. admissions to the hospice
2.
work in partnership with the physician team to ensure resident needs are communicated and met
3. establish and maintain Resident records
4. investigate incidents and complaints, and as required identify and carry appropriate corrective actions
5. provide appropriate training and clinical supervision to the nursing and PSW team
6. monitor the infection prevention and control program
7. ensure standards of care through the implementation of policies and procedures as needed
8. assume responsibility for appropriate staffing and scheduling, providing assistance and coverage as resident needs require, being part of the on-call rotation
9. Provide after-hours support to the clinical team, as required, in order to effectively manage critical needs
- Ensure compliance with all acts,
regulations and requirements acting as a point of contact during any review processes conducted by regulatory bodies.
- Develop and maintain professional and effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, peers, stakeholders, community members and funders.

- Provide services in keeping with the organization’s Mission, Vision and Beliefs and Resident Declaration of Values.
- Adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.
- Adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA 2010) as outlined in the organization's privacy policies and procedures.
- Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF Accreditation standards.

- SALARY: Commensurate with experience
