Position: Manager, National Teams
Location: Athletics Canada National Office (Ottawa)
Reports to: Senior Manager, National Teams
Classification: Full-Time
Remuneration: Commensurate with experience
Overview
Athletics Canada is the national sport organization for track and field, cross county, road, mountain, ultra and trail running. Its purpose is to support high performance athletics excellence at the domestic and international level and to provide leadership in developmental athletics in partnership with its provincial/territorial branch partners. Athletics Canada is a not-for-profit, charitable organization operating under a Board of Directors elected by provincial/territorial members.
The National Teams Manager leads in the planning and implementation of initiatives of the National Teams Unit within Athletics Canada’s High Performance Program. The Manager will work collaboratively with the High Performance team staff to deliver world class operational and logistical support to national team members. The Manager will have a primarily Paralympic focus within Athletics Canada’s integrated High Performance Program. The role will be based at the National Office in Ottawa.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To work with the National Teams Unit team to ensure the smooth operational running of assigned camps, competitions, tours, conferences and selections including, but not limited to:
- Preparation, maintenance and execution of detailed project plans.
- To act as Team Manager at assigned camps, competitions and tours as assigned. This will typically include the major championships competitions for the Paralympic program each year.
- Communicating with athletes, coaches,
managers and support staff to confirm travel arrangements, ensure required documentation is complete, etc.
- Booking all logistical requirements such as accommodation, ground transportation, flights, etc.
- Liaising with Local Organizing Committees, facility managers, Canadian Multi-sport organisations and other relevant local vendors.
- Distributing post-event questionnaires, collating results and producing post-event reports, etc.
- Preparation of athlete and staff selection documentation.
- To manage the budget of the assigned activities in conjunction with the Senior Manager, National Teams and drive value for money.
- To manage assigned Athlete Support Services including:
- - Communication with athletes/staff regarding requirements, deadlines, etc.;
- Enrollment of athletes and/or staff in programs;
- When necessary, work with internal colleagues to evaluate athletes/staff for assigned programs;
- Track international calendar, and send updates when required;
- Operations related to assigned services.
- To maintain operational level communications with assigned national and international peak sporting body stakeholders, passing on key policies and updates to the rest of the organization as appropriate.
- To provide administrative support to the HP Leadership Team as required.
- To complete any other related tasks as reasonably assigned.
- To act as an exemplar of the HP Values and Behaviours.
Qualifications and Experience
- College or university degree, in relevant subject, is preferred.
- 3-5 years experience working in a high performance sporting environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, while adhering to budgets and deadlines.
- Proven track record in project management with strong attention to detail.
- Shows strong collaboration and communication skills to work with international and external partners.
- Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Sport System.
The following experiences and skills are not required but will be an advantage:
- Experience in Paralympic sport.
- Use of third party software packages and databases.
- Ability to communicate in French.
Work Location
The successful candidate will be required to work onsite at the National Office located in Ottawa, ON.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience.
