We're looking for a Co-op Student, Strategic Research to support the Strategic Research department & team.

Part of the Executive Operations division, the Strategic Research department is the central research resource of WorkSafeBC. We are committed to providing guidance, expertise, and insights related to research, academic and business intelligence, and initiatives as well as knowledge translation. Our goal is to empower people at WorkSafeBC to make evidence-based, results-focused decisions to support the operations and goals of your department and our organization.

By actively acquiring and disseminating topical academic and business research,

Strategic Research plays an integral role in supporting WorkSafeBC's mission to prevent workplace injury, illness, and death, and support injured workers through fair compensation and effective rehabilitation.

If you are interested in applying your talents and knowledge and gaining valuable experience to support worker health and safety, we want to hear from you. This is a four-month temporary opportunity starting January 2024.

How you'll make a difference: You'll apply what you've learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and are currently required to be on-site in our Richmond office once per month. Please note that our work model is evolving and this could be subject to change in future.

What you'll do

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

The successful candidate for the co-op role will assist the development of knowledge management practices for the WorkSafeBC library following these five phases of work:

- You will collaborate with the Reference Librarian and Business Analyst to develop a working definition of information and knowledge management practices currently performed at WorkSafeBC.
- Building from the scope of knowledge management practices, the co-op student will perform a needs assessment by interviewing Library stakeholders from across the enterprise to identify gaps in current technology and services and divisional priorities for information and how that translates to operational or strategic decision making.

- The co-op student will then map the gaps and priorities of the business to current library practices and tools with suggestions for improvement.
- Partnering with our I&T; teams and the Reference Librarian, the co-op student will collaborate on the development of a functional minimum viable product (MVP) or Proof of Concept (POC) to enhance current or introduce new services. Depending on the priorities identified by the business, this could take the form of implementing a new service, improving an existing capability, or building a new technology solution.
- In the final phase of the four-month co-op term the successful candidate will consider the full scope of how knowledge management is currently defined, business needs and priorities, opportunities with current services, and lessons learned from testing new solutions via POC.

The co-op will make recommendations for what metrics and analytics would be appropriate to accurately assess the value of knowledge management solutions and what next steps can be taken to extend these benefits further.
