The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Data & Analytics General Manager (GM), to join our Information & Operational Technology team.
This is a permanent hybrid position , located in Toronto, Canada or Belo Horizonte, Brazil depending on the current location of the successful candidate.
As a GM, Data & Analytics , you will be responsible for Vale Base Metals (VBM) Data, Analytics and AI services, and of end-to-end data value chain, working closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure we extract insight and value from our data.
This includes the creation and management of Vale Base Metals (VBM) data, analytics and AI strategy, and execution of related programs and practices that drive measurable business outcomes.
You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of data management, including the performance,
integrity, and security of data. You will oversee enterprise-wide data governance, control, and policy development. This role involves establishing, leading and operating the D&A; function, developing talent and evolving VBMs D&A; culture, building trust and managing data, and evolving technology capabilities to generate value across the business.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Maintain authority and accountability for exploiting the value of enterprise information assets, and of the analytics used to render insights for decision making,
automated decisions and augmentation of human performance; be the corporate leader of data-driven insights and use cases that help support the exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities.
- Govern VBM master data; establish and maintain trust in data assets by instituting governance mechanisms for data and algorithms used for analysis, analytical applications and automated decision making.
- Build partnerships with business leaders to establish the vision for building analytics capabilities to maximize the value derived from data assets and enhance safe and productive operations.
- Oversee delivery models, methods and practices for creation of data, analytics and ai products and ensure consistent application and use of data and analytics solutions.
- Collaborate with domain, business unit, and technology leaders to establish and enforce data policies, processes, and standards, prioritizing data quality and security.
- Identify new needs for analytical solutions and collaborate with data scientists to develop advanced analytical models tailed to specific business requirements.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance data, analytics and AI capabilities and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee all formal communications regarding data governance and management.
- Identify and track cross-domain risks, issues, and interdependencies as they relate to data, analytics and AI.
- Foster the creation of a data-driven culture, related competencies and data literacy across the enterprise; lead these transformation efforts by developing D&A; talent and maturing the capability of the organization.
About You
Education:
- An Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Information Systems.
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of management experience in data & analytics.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of data modeling, integration, quality management, and master data management.
- Capable of deriving insights from complex datasets for informed decision-making.
- Proficient in data analysis and visualization an understanding of underlying tools and platforms like SQL, Python, Tableau, and PowerBI.
- Ability to lead and manage complex data and analytics projects from planning to execution.
- Adept at leading teams, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation.
- Articulate in conveying complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Skilled in driving organizational change and adoption of new practices.
- Knowledgeable in data security, privacy, and compliance to manage associated risks.
- Understanding of how to apply AI concepts in Enterprise context.
- Committed to staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, especially in AI applications in the context of heavy industry sector.
