PLACEMENT at JHS Durham - JANUARY 2025

Application Updates and Upcoming Information Session Dates:

JANUARY 2025: Our January 2025 placement information session will take place on Monday, November 4th at 10:30am via Zoom. We are currently considering students for our

-Clarington Youth Centres (Courtice/Newcastle/Bowmanville), and

-Harm Reduction Program (Oshawa)

We thank you for your interest in obtaining placement with the John Howard Society of Durham Region (JHSD). We are a non-profit, social service agency dedicated to serving all individuals, families, youth, and adults in programs in areas such as Community Justice, Employment and Training and Housing/Residential Services.

Steps for Applying to Placement:

STEP ONE

Submit your resume, cover letter, and respond to the included questions through this portal.

Note: You should receive an immediate confirmation email after you submit your application. If you do not, please check your junk/spam folder.

STEP TWO

You will be invited to a virtual information session via Zoom,





where you will have the chance to meet program leaders and learn about the opportunities available for placement. Attendees who participate in this session are given priority throughout the application process. If you have any concerns about being able to attend the information session, please communicate these concerns to us. The date of the information session will correspond to the date/school term of your placement:

January/Winter Placement Period: The information session will take place in the preceding October/November.

May/Summer Placement Period: The information session will take place in the preceding February/March.

September/Fall Placement Period: The information session will take place in the preceding May/June.

STEP THREE







Following the information session, students with a continued interest are invited to complete a placement screening application (given following the session) and will indicate their area/ranked top three choices of interest. Upon completion, these will be sent to program leaders for further consideration.

STEP FOUR

If selected, students will be invited to interview with the program specific mentor/supervisor of their first, second, and/or third choice (dependent upon availability of opportunities). With the program supervisor or designate, you will also further discuss the placement position, expectations, and next steps to ensure the opportunities will meet your curriculum goals.

STEP FIVE







Confirmed placement candidates will be invited to attend an agency orientation session to complete necessary school and JHSD paperwork. During that session a personnel file will be created and several documents pertaining to approaches and policies will be reviewed and signed.
