Position purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Content, the videographer is responsible for shooting,





editing and producing a wide range of video content that showcases the University's mission, values and achievements. This role involves collaborating with colleagues from the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, and with stakeholders across faculties and services, to produce video content that effectively communicates the University’s brand, engages its diverse audiences and advances the uOttawa’s reputation.

In this role, you will:

- Video production: Leads the process from pre-production (storyboarding, scouting, scheduling, etc.) through to production (filming, managing logistics, capturing audio, etc.) and post-production (editing, creating motion graphics, delivering files, etc.). Creates video content that aligns with the University’s goals and the communication plans developed to achieve them. Ensures that the video content produced meets high-quality standards in terms of AODA standards, visual aesthetics and storytelling effectiveness,





while reflecting the University's brand.
- Creative development: Suggests ideas for video content that align with the University’s communication objectives and plans. Stays abreast of industry developments and best practices while proactively applying new insights and techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Continuously seeks opportunities for learning and growth by expanding their skills and knowledge in video production techniques, equipment and software.
- Collaboration: Works closely with the team at the Office of Communication and Public Affairs and its partners, to understand objectives, project requirements and timelines. Communicates effectively with team members,





clients and other stakeholders throughout the production process to ensure alignment with project goals and deliverables. Presents ideas and project updates to stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
- Project management: Delivers simultaneous video projects on time and within budget. Effectively manages own time and resources to meet deadlines and production milestones. Demonstrates efficiency in workflow and production processes by optimizing productivity without compromising quality. Implements feedback from colleagues and stakeholders to continuously improve the impact and effectiveness of video content.
- Asset management: Maintains and operates video equipment, including cameras, lighting equipment and audio devices. Stays updated on industry trends and technological advancements to enhance video production capabilities.





Oversees the organization and proper storage of video assets in the University’s media library.

What you will bring:

- Bachelor’s degree in film, communications, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in video production
- Ability to conceptualize and develop unique story ideas
- Ability to operate cameras effectively, adjust settings, and capture high-quality footage
- Skilled in framing shots, selecting angles, and using lighting to enhance storytelling and evoke emotion
- Strong proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and other tools from the Adobe Creative Suite






- Knowledge of best practices for lighting setups and audio recording
- Proven understanding of the steps required to produce exceptional video content
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, unexpected challenges and evolving project requirements
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards
