Support the Girls Liason
Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support the Girls Community Coordinator to serve as a liaison for women and their families facing the challenges of breast cancer. In this role, you will be responsible for fostering a supportive community environment by organizing and coordinating various activities, including but not limited to craft nights, referrals to counseling sessions,
and other community-based initiatives that will grow over time. You will also facilitate bi-monthly support groups and coordinate with local resources and community programs within the scope of breast cancer patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaison and Support: Act as a key point of contact for women affected by breast cancer, offering empathy and assistance in accessing or referring to applicable support resources.
Community Engagement: Develop and implement programs to encourage community involvement, such as craft nights, paint nights, yoga, group activities, support groups, and other activities to foster a sense of togetherness.
Event Planning: Organize and coordinate events and activities that provide emotional support and promote a sense of community among breast cancer patients and their families.
Networking: Collaborate with local organizations, healthcare providers, and support services to expand the network of resources available to the community.
Counseling Services:
Facilitate access to counseling services, encouraging individuals to have the emotional support they need throughout their breast cancer journey. A resource of emotional support professional and qualified service providers will need to be coordinated.
Education and Awareness: Conduct informational sessions to raise awareness about breast cancer, its challenges, and available resources within the community, in coordination with Support the Girls Committee.
Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of breast cancer patients and their families, working to eliminate barriers to access support and services by creating Support the Girls funded events with community groups.
Marketing:
Work closely with the social media marketer to effectively promote events and incentives. This includes, but is not limited to, updating the website and managing the coordination of posts on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to maximize visibility and engagement. Develop promotional materials and strategies that resonate with the target audience, ensuring that all communications reflect the mission and values of Support the Girls.
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, kind and empathetic with a genuine desire to support individuals and families dealing with breast cancer.
Strong organizational and communication skills including online communication within private groups.
Previous experience in community coordination, event planning, or a related field is a plus.
Knowledge of local healthcare resources and support services.
Sensitivity to the emotional and physical challenges faced by individuals affected by cancer as well as confidentiality will be required.
This is a remote position requiring self motivation and regular communication and reporting to the VASTG committee. Time commitment will vary week to week but will be considered part time. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required depending when events are scheduled.
