Position Overview

River Valley School is currently seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to join our team.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Human Resources Coordinator works to support and promote the school’s mission, vision and values and is responsible for providing support in various human resource functions including recruitment, staffing, training and development, performance monitoring, talent management, and employee assistance as well as administrative functions.

The position is privy to confidential information such as but not limited to personnel files, salary information, human resource planning, Board of Governor activities, and financial information. The successful candidate must be above reproach in professionalism, confidentiality and sensitivity to all stakeholder’s information.

The role requires depth and flexibility in the skills of communication, reading comprehension, writing and presentation formulation.





The role also requires management of multiple and often conflicting priorities. The incumbent must work well under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with all levels within a school environment and with external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

- Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that align with and support the school’s overall Mission, Vision and Values and Strategic Plan.
- Supporting current and future school needs through the development and implementation of strategies related to employee engagement and recognition programs, retention and succession planning, and employee compensation practices.
- Developing, administering and maintaining RVS employment policies and programs including programs related to health and wellness programs.
- Developing,





coordinating and managing staff recruitment and selection procedures, including:
- Preparing and evaluating job descriptions,
- Coordinating job postings, scheduling and participating in interviews, and conducting reference checks on potential candidates, and
- Onboarding of new employees.
- Managing employee separations from the school and coordinating offboarding activities, including:
- Coordinating employee Leave of Absences, and
- Conducting exit interviews when applicable.
- Assisting with managing a performance evaluation system that supports the school and staff.
- Providing information and advice to Senior Leadership on various human resource, employee relations, and work-related issues.
- Providing ongoing HR communications, support,





and guidance to staff as per the school’s policies and procedures.
- Working to continually nurture and maintain a positive working culture including implementing a mentoring program.
- Ensuring compliance with employment legislation.
- Provide assistance to the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team as needed.

Qualifications

- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired will be considered.
- 3-5 years’ work experience in Human Resources and Administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Independent self-motivator who can work with minimal supervision.






- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support multiple leaders.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Availability to attend evening events 3-4 times a year as part of the role.
- Prior experience working with education or not-for-profit organizations is an asset.

The final candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment background checks including a criminal record check with the vulnerable sector.
