Electronic Technician Electrician

- - - Role Summary

The Electronic Technician Electrician role, reporting to the Tolling Supervisor, entails overseeing the maintenance, administration, and troubleshooting of the toll system, intelligent surveillance system, and traffic management system, along with any technology situated on the bridges or bridge properties. The responsibilities encompass installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electrical equipment, as well as associated electrical and electronic controls.

This position necessitates working in varying weather conditions, including adverse weather,





being in close proximity to automotive traffic and moving equipment/vehicles on the bridge, working at extreme heights ranging from 170 to 320 feet above the bridge, and occasionally in confined spaces below the bridge or within the bridge towers. Adherence to HHB Safety standards, policies, and processes is crucial, encompassing hazard assessments, the use of required Personal Protective Equipment, proper access to confined spaces, and diligent safety observations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Adhere to HHB safety protocols, standards, and Safe Work Practices, which include mandatory safety training, completion of Job Hazard Assessments, reporting hazards to the Tolling Supervisor, and taking corrective actions to address, mitigate, or control risks. Additionally, contribute suggestions to enhance the overall Safety program.

• Install, inspect, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.







• Conduct tests on electrical and electronic equipment, assessing continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems, along with other related devices.

• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with codes.

• Execute preventive maintenance programs and maintain detailed maintenance records.

• Operate in toll lanes under various weather conditions to support toll systems.

• Maintain and troubleshoot traffic management systems.

• Perform maintenance and repairs on surveillance cameras.

• Support and maintain treasury room equipment.







• Conduct scheduled checks on electronics in bridges and buildings.

• Utilize volt/ohm meter, oscilloscope, and other equipment and software for testing and diagnostics.

• Participate in job-related safety training and skills development as required.

• Undertake any other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Clean driving record and hold a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License. Driver Abstract will be requested before employment.

• Demonstrate intermediate computer proficiency.

• Successfully completed the Red Seal Electricians program.

• Capable of operating in high-stress environments with minimal supervision, particularly in safety-sensitive roles.

• Essential safety training includes Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry,





Arial Lifts, WHMIS, and First Aid (employer-provided if necessary).

• Successful completion of physical demand testing and a clean criminal background check.

• Display punctuality, dependability, and a positive can-do attitude.

• Willingness to work overtime or extended shifts when necessary.

• Effective communication skills with individuals possessing diverse technical/non-technical knowledge, skills, or experience.

• Competent in working independently or collaboratively as part of a team, ensuring efficiency while prioritizing excellent customer service and maintaining pride in delivering quality work.

Assets Include

• Prior experience working in adverse and extreme weather conditions is an asset.

Physical Requirements







• Regularly lifting weights ranging from 25 to 50 lbs, with occasional lifts between 50 to 100 lbs.

• This role requires the employee to be on their feet (standing and walking) for five to six hours during an eight-hour workday.

• Additional tasks may involve varying levels of intensity in activities such as lifting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching overhead/forward/side, occasional climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, squatting, and twisting, depending on daily requirements.

Working Conditions

• This role is classified as a *safety-sensitive position.

• Exposure to heavy to moderate noise due to proximity to automotive traffic or working near moving equipment/vehicles on the bridge.







• Working conditions include variable weather temperatures and exposure to adverse or extreme weather, including freezing temperatures such as rain, snow, and ice.

• Candidates must be capable of working at heights and in confined/small spaces.

• Tasks may involve working at extreme heights (170 – 320 feet) above the bridge and in confined spaces below the bridge or within the bridge towers.

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals used for tolling coin machines.

• Occasionally encountering bird feces and dead animals is possible.

• Mental stress may arise from the height of the structure, working in traffic, or responding to hazardous situations.







*Safety sensitive position refers to any position in which Employees have a key and direct role in an operation where performance impacted or limited by drug or alcohol use could result in a significant incident, near miss, or failure to adequately respond to a significant incident and affect the health, safety or security of the Employee, other persons, property, or the environment, or cause a detrimental impact to reputation. Safety Sensitive Positions are also those where there is no direct supervision or limited supervision is available to provide frequent operational checks.

This is a Full-time, Unionized position - LOCAL 927 Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, Helpers & Miscellaneous Workers. The hours of work are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hours a week) from Monday to Friday, however,





the role does require occasional extended hours (weekend and/or evening). An on-call rotation, once in three or four weeks is required. The comprehensive compensation package includes health and dental benefits in addition to insurance coverage.

Hiring wage: Electronic Technician $ 33.31 hour the rate will increase to $35.46/hour after 6 months
