Jump Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join the team at O’Neill Auto Group in Mount Pearl, NL.

O’Neill Auto Group is Canada’s largest Nissan dealer group with three locations within the province. Accompanied by brands like Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Infiniti, and Acura, the O’Neill Auto Group, a family-owned and operated business is also Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest luxury vehicle retailer.

The Role:







As the Assistant Controller, you will report directly to the Controller and play a crucial role in overseeing various accounting and financial operations across the dealership group. You will be responsible for maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with industry standards and government regulations, and supporting the dealership’s overall financial health.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

- Monthly Financial Statements:
- Financial Forecasts and Budgets
- Expense Variance Analysis
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- General Ledger Review
- Data Integrity Improvement

Compliance & Auditing

- Maintain accuracy and currency of manufacturer accounts (warranty claims, rebates, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with government finance regulations, including taxes and retirement plans.
- Act as the primary contact for the annual external audit.
- Ensure office staff adhere to proper accounting procedures and maintain accurate records.

Cash & Payroll Management







- Maintain an effective cash management system
- Ensure proper reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources (bank, reserve accounts, factory payable, and floor plan payable)
- Review and approve weekly payroll processing

Team Supervision & Support

- Oversee and guide office and accounting staff as directed by the Controller, providing training and support as needed

Assist with other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Preferred: CPA designation (or in progress)
- Minimum 5 years of senior accounting experience, preferably in the automotive industry
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (CDK or similar)






- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Leadership experience with the capacity to train junior staff
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance
