Overall Accountability
The Instructional Media Center Specialist collaborates with Learning Services and district schools regarding resources in all formats and provides support to all Learning Commons Librarians with the daily operations and planning in the Learning Commons. The Instructional Media Centre Specialist supports the Instructional Media Centre by providing leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all formats.
The Instructional Media Centre Specialist is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and organization of the media resource library and its systems.
Specific Accountabilities
- Liaises with Informational Technology with the management, maintenance, and development of the Resource Management System
- Collaborates and liaises between Learning Services and teachers.
- Coordinates district resources, district resource library, and Instructional kits
- Manages and maintains the district archives
- Liaises with Calgary and area public libraries and Informational Technology on coordinating the District Resource Management and Calgary Public Library systems.
- Liaises with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Library Information and Technology program coordinator regarding practicum students.
- Collaborates with schools on development and maintenance of Learning Commons resources, planning, and programming.
- Supports the Instructional Media Educational Technology Consultant with Makerspace materials and philosophy, as well as District ChangeMaker Challenge
- Collaborates with Instructional Media Educational Technology Consultant with District documentation.
- Collaborates with Instructional Media Educational Technology Consultant with implementing and maintaining the District Learning Commons philosophy.
- Supports the Learning Commons Librarians profile development and professional growth opportunities.
- Supports Learning Commons Librarians with the tasks required to maintain their day-to-day needs.
- Responsible for the Resource Management system training and support to all Learning Commons Librarians and district staff
- Responsible for providing an orientation series to new Learning Commons Librarians
- Organizes, plans, and coordinates,
with Instructional Media Educational Technology Consultant, the Learning Commons Quadrant Meetings and Learning Commons Celebration
- Manages and maintains the centralized media catalog database, circulation system(s) for media resources and inventory.
- Liaises with Library Management System organization to manage and support with the Insignia system
- Assists in locating, accessing, and evaluating information over a wide variety of print and electronic information resources.
- Coordinates the functions associated with licensing and distribution of electronic resources.
- Collaborates with, and supports the Instructional Media Department
Qualifications
- Degree in resource management or library sciences preferred; or Library Information Technology Diploma (2-year program) with relevant work experience
- Five (5) years’ experience in a media centre or learning commons setting preferred
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License and a vehicle in good operating condition
- Knowledge of library media processes and equipment
- Comprehensive knowledge of research and inquiry methodology
- Familiarity and experience with automated library cataloguing and circulation systems, particularly with the current software used by the District preferred
- Proficiency with G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Educational Technology, databases, electronic search
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Proven collaboration and team building skills
