Summary

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Fundraising Data & Analytics to lead the team who are responsible for managing and evolving our data and analytics practice. The Senior Manager will lead the design, implementation,





and maintenance of the data systems, processes and analytics underpinning the Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising program. This includes data controls, training, reporting and analysis, for Digital, Direct Mail, Major Gifts and Endowment fundraising. The Senior Manager will continually assess the data needs for the team and recommend and implement improvements to products, systems and processes. They will play a leading role in structuring, measuring and analyzing donor and income trends to inform fundraising strategy and decision making. This role requires a strong data and analytics acumen and a solid understanding of fundraising strategies. The right candidate will have an inquisitive approach to understanding the power and limitations of data, and will bring an innovative sensibility to how the organization can apply data-driven techniques to grow fundraising revenue.

As the Senior Manager, Fundraising Data & Analytics, you will join the Fundraising Team which is responsible for raising over $185M annually.





In this role, you will help set a vision for the Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising data and analytics practice. You will be joining at an exciting time, as the Data and Analytics Team is currently modernizing tooling and technology.

You are responsible for:

Team Management

- Manage team of Analysts, Analytics Engineers and Database Operations staff.
- Mentor staff, coaching them on how to solve analytics and data challenges, fostering their growth as data professionals.
- Lead team to build data models, pipelines, and products that deliver more actionable insights, focusing on automation and repeatability of solutions.
- Review your team's work from technical design, performance, and code review perspectives,





sharing your expertise to develop skills within the team.
- Lead team of Analysts and Analytics Engineers providing thought leadership on best practices, helping them to define questions, recommendations, and communicate results.
- Lead your team to create training materials, conduct user onboarding, and provide troubleshooting support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Analytics

- Define an analytics strategy that pushes the Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising forward. This includes establishing the key metrics to broaden impact as well as partnering with fundraising colleagues to scope, define and implement strategies to hit those metrics.
- In partnership with your team, develop analytics infrastructure capable of supporting current and future quantitative needs.





This includes defining the structure and architecture of various data sources and working closely with colleagues in Fundraising Technology, and associated vendors, to ensure new data is collected, evaluated, and verified with an eye towards data integrity.
- Serve as one of the fundraising team's subject matter experts on analytical approaches necessary to grow revenue, data-related tools & platforms and data best practices (A/B testing, modeling, etc).
- Lead your team to develop, maintain, and enhance reporting systems to track and report on revenue. Work towards the enablement of multi-year revenue forecasting and planning.
- Work with other senior leaders to introduce new approaches and models for reporting, forecasting, projections, benchmarking,





measurement, optimization, supporter scoring, segmentation and attribution.
- Develop the fundraising team's data science practice, evolving the use of data and segmentation, implementing best practices (eg. propensity modeling)

Data Management

- Identify strategic data needs, raising issues that require immediate attention and partnering with Fundraising Technology to deliver database enhancements/upgrades as needed.
- Work with internal teams to identify gaps in data, gather business requirements, and formulate and recommend technical solutions or other approaches that suit organizational needs. Solutions include: sync upgrades, data mapping, writing new scripts and queries, internal process improvements.






- Review and direct decisions regarding the long-term strategy that influences overall data accuracy.
- Ensure that all data collected for input into databases (e.g. survey data, donor data) is compatible with database structure and protocols. Advise internal staff on best practices for data input and manage streamlining manual uploads, and as needed develop processes to ensure consistency of data entry.
- Oversee data exports for fundraising campaigns, partnering with your team and external vendors to manage processes ensuring data security is maintained.
- Stay up to date on system changes and new technologies, and communicate these changes to the team.
- Identify, develop, and implement plans to ensure data is accurate, clean, complete and updated on a regular basis (e.g.





demographic overlays), using automated systems as much as possible.
- Work with your team to create database field usage guidelines, for use by fundraising staff, and definitions to ensure database management and maintenance tasks are performed effectively.

Skills and Experience:

- 8+ years spent in a leadership role managing Data Scientists and Analysts.
- Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or related quantitative field preferred.
- Understanding of fundraising strategies and best practices preferred.
- Experience with statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and A/B testing in service of solving business challenges.
- Mastery of SQL, with working knowledge of CRUD operations and dynamic SQL






- Proficiency in languages/tools for data ELT processes (Python, dbt) and performance optimization in and around these systems.
- Knowledge around database architecture principles (i.e., data models, layers, etc.)
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (writing, verbal and presentation).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines to achieve program goals.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with donors, vendors, and team members.
- Strong experience with modern data analysis tools and platforms.

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based 40+ countries*. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$144,597 to US$223,659 with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
