WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and managing costs associated with our production process, as well as outsourced products, ensuring accurate financial reporting. They will play a critical role in supporting decision making by collaborating with cross-departmental teams, providing accurate information as well as insights into our inventory and cost of goods sold.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze and monitor product costs, including direct materials, labour, landed cost of outsourced goods, and manufacturing overhead to ensure financial accuracy
- Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Participate in audits and assist in providing necessary documentation and explanations related to manufacturing costs
- Update transfer prices in the system whenever necessary for intercompany sales
- Drive the annual pricing project including the creation of the product costing file, as well as leading the initiative, collaborating with various departments throughout the process.
- Assist in annual budgeting process, with a focus on cost of goods sold and allocation of costs to inventory as it is produced/acquired from outsourcers.
- Assist in the preparation of transfer price reports for taxation purposes alongside external experts annually
- Partner closely with the Product Development team in project cost analysis, validating inputs and calculations
- Support project costing for contract bids and the audit of the same
- Support operations team in review and analysis of variances
- Involvement in inventory counts (cycle counts and yearend counts)
- Administer updates to system allocation of COGS to inventory
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in accounting or related field
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
- 3+ years of Cost Accounting or financial analysis work experience, preferably with a manufacturing background
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices specific to manufacturing
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to analyze financial data and generate accurate reports.
- Ability to advise management on financial matters and facilitate cross-departmental collaboration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex financial issues.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
