The opportunity
CBC/Radio-Canada operates one of the world's leading technology infrastructures and one of the largest private networks, which distributes its content and services exclusively across the country. CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for a hands-on System Designer in media infrastructure to join our Engineering team, to both lead and take part in projects focused on deploying technology.
This is a full time permanent position, and the successful incumbent would be based in Toronto or Montreal, working primarily on local projects, with eventual and occasional travel to various other sites nationally.

You will be part of a project team, participating in different steps of projects, from proposal and procurement to design, implementation, testing and handover, in accordance with CBC/Radio-Canada and industry standards as well as current federal and provincial regulations.

As our new System Designer you will: Create concept designs for review with our business partners and/or peers.
Design or participate in the design of innovative, practical solutions to complex problems.
Regularly meet with peers, project leads and other teams, to determine requirements, provide analytical data and possible solutions.
Create or participate in the scheduling of project activities.
Prepare schematic, layout drawings and installation instructions.
Follow the procurement policy to purchase the systems and the material that is needed on projects, in conjunction with the Project Lead(s) and/or Manager(s).
Participate in the implementation phase of the project.
Verify system performance and ensure that identified deficiencies are rectified.
Prepare documentation for ongoing operation and maintenance of facilities.
Track and report on project processes, identifying and escalating any deviations from the project plan.
What you bring: Hands-on detailed design and implementation of operations facing production workflows and content distribution systems for radio,
television and digital platforms as it relates to broadcasting will be considered as an asset
Practical experience with SMPTE ST2110 standards, NRCS system, Camera Chain, Post Audio/Video editing tools, live graphics system including AR and VR
Knowledge of integration and deployment of technologies across an organization, including web, virtualization, storage, security and networking principles
Bachelor's degree in Applied Science or Engineering, or a Diploma In Applied Science and Technology
Experience in Project Management is preferred, specifically with the Agile approach
Membership, or eligibility to become a member, of the provincial Engineering Association (PEO, OIQ, etc.) is an asset
Strong and influential verbal and written communication skills in English and French considered a strong asset
Strong analytical skills, with an innate ability to think through complex issues and design innovative solutions, as well as digging further into issues, removing roadblocks and presenting solutions for immediate and long term
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with peers, partners, clients, management, and external vendors, in addition to being able to effectively translate technical requirements to non technical business needs
Ability to work efficiently on a number of projects at different stages with multiple priorities, never losing sight of the details
Ability to adapt to new tools and technologies quickly, all while staying up to date with industry best practices
Ability to travel to different CBC/Radio-Canada locations to assist/lead different phases of projects
