Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Clinical Dental Assistant will demonstrate, supervise, and provide formative and summative feedback into the student assessment process in practical lab and clinic under the direction of the clinical faculty lead. The incumbent will liaise with the Program Coordinator/faculty and clinical faculty leads to discuss student progress and ensure equity of student experience,





and the Quality Assurance Monitor and clinical faculty leads for calibration of clinical processes.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Providing students with appropriate learning experiences to assist them in meeting the course learning outcomes in their pre-clinical, clinical, patient-care, and lab experiences
• Reinforcing and organizing practice and skills demonstrations, including for refresher and remedial purposes, of pre-learned principles and theories from the didactic courses that apply to the clinical settings and the delivery of dental assistant care
• Liaising and consulting regularly with faculty to facilitate effective integration of theory with practice and achievement of expected outcomes
• Providing orientation for students to the clinical environment, the respective policies and procedures, and equipment used in the provision of dental assisting services
• Providing input into the evaluation process, both formative and summative,





using a lab/clinic assessment tool developed by faculty, on observed students’ dental assisting knowledge, skills and attitudes by using established forms, memos of concern, remediation plans, and evaluation tools
• Providing regular feedback, to students and the lead faculty about the students’ performance
• Supervising and monitoring students in the delivery of patient-care, while reinforcing the development of professional knowledge, skills and attitudes
• Providing students with the clarification, guidance, advising and feedback on their skills related to the dental assisting process of care through clear and consistent communication both written and verbal
• Demonstrating clinical expertise and professional role modeling






• Tracking student performance of clinical and lab skills for use by lead faculty
• Making recommendations for student remediation
• Attending meetings and calibrating with peers, staff, and faculty of clinical processes and skill demonstrations
• Auditing and ensuring professional standards of care, and health and safety standards and procedures are being followed by students and staff
• Discussing student issues/concerns such as patient management, clinical permit validity, and student absence, and referring more complex or academic issues to the faculty lead or program coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successfully completed a one-year dental assisting certificate (Level I & II) which includes requirements for HARP approval
• Passed the NDAEB Exam






• Certification with the Ontario and/or Canadian Dental Assistants’ Association
• First Aid/CPR
• Training in educational theory and methodology an asset
• Minimum five years’ practical experience working as a Dental Assistant demonstrating a wide variety of dental protocols and techniques
• Ability to work non-traditional hours including evening and weekends as required
• Experience working with patients of diverse backgrounds, and complex health histories and oral health needs
• Computer skills experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard, and Axium Dental Software
• Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations and protocols required by the RCDSO and CDHO.






• Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills with the ability to handle requests and problems with diplomacy
• Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
• Ability to take direction and execute instructions
• Organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet multiple and conflicting deadlines which demonstrating a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
