Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Emergency Food Truck Coordinator in Community Safety.

HRM has purchased a “Grumman-style” refrigerated truck (the HRM Emergency Food Truck) to support emergency response and the movement of food and supplies into and from communities. In addition to supporting emergency response, maximizing the Truck for community food distribution during non-emergency times was a rationale for its purchase. Community Safety is developing the “JustFOOD Halifax Food Distribution Pilot” to test, maximize, and evaluate the use of the Truck to support community-based not for profits who are supplying good food with dignity and equity of access. The Pilot will be supported by an agreement with Second Harvest, a food rescue charity, to utilize foodrescue.ca to source food supply and track community demand.

The Emergency Food Truck Coordinator would facilitate the connection of food supply from local and neighboring businesses and organizations to HRM-based community organizations. They would manage the scheduling of the Truck and coordination of its use by community organizations, if required. During an emergency,





their role would shift to supporting emergency responses, as determined by Emergency Management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Oversees, expands, and evaluates the JustFOOD Halifax Food Distribution Pilot, in collaboration with municipal food staff;
- Ensures safe operation and maintenance of the Truck, supported by Corporate Fleet;
- Develops and maintains strong community partner relationships through timely and open communication and consistent customer service;
- During emergency events, pivots to supporting emergency food response, which could include the movement and transportation of equipment and food, as directed by Emergency Measures;
- Oversees the usage and community partner bookings of the Truck,





ensuring that it is available for deployment in the event of an emergency; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

- Grade 12 education;
- Valid NS Class 5 driver’s license (and satisfactory driver’s abstract); and
- Minimum three years’ customer service experience.

Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

- Ability to build and maintain relationships through thoughtful and tactful communication;
- Ability to effectively prioritize when faced with conflicting needs;
- Strong time management skills;
- Ability to be flexible and problem solve;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Some light physical activities such as walking, bending, sitting, standing, lifting light to medium weight objects,





and intermittent periods of driving.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full-time

HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, 35 hours per week. Overtime work may be required during emergencies.

SALARY: Group 5, NSGEU Local 222, $29.40 hourly.

WORK LOCATION: Alderney Gate, 40 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth, NS.
