Applied Industrial Technologies is currently seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Director – Shop & Field Services for all of Canada. The location is flexible for any metropolitan area our Applied Regional Shops operate in: Greater Vancouver Area (Surrey), Calgary, Edmonton/Nisku, Saskatoon, Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, or Quebec City.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the President – Canada, the Director – Shop & Field Services will lead a Canada-wide shop organization, playing a critical role in the success of the organizations operating success. In collaboration with a team of dedicated General Managers and the President, , you will be responsible for establishing and executing the company’s strategic direction as it relates to our shop and field service channel,





while collaborating with leaders in other disciplines across the AIT Canada organization. The successful incumbent will possess the capability to develop and grow a world-class shop management organization and team, reflecting a strong performance culture as well as demonstrated success driving accountability in all areas of the business and delivering strong results.

Responsibilities

The mandate will encompass strategic planning, people and organizational capability, business development in current and new markets, operational excellence, quality management and relentless commitment to EHS. Key Responsibilities are as follows:

Strategic Direction

- Develop, in conjunction with the President and other senior leaders,





the business plan that will establish the strategic direction and performance objectives for the Shop & Field Services division to achieve market share growth and improve the expected competitive position. Drive market share growth and improved competitive position of the Shop & Field Services division by developing and executing the strategy across shops within Canada.
- Implementation of the business plan including defining appropriate KPIs and measurements; responsible for ongoing measurement and reporting of progress
- Responsible for annual budgeting and cost management of all aspects of Shop & Field Services division
- Ensure the ongoing evolution of the identity and culture of the Shop & Field Services division.






- Engage and mobilize the significant potential of the Shop & Field Services organization through inspirational leadership, while raising the bar in terms of performance, in close cooperation with its employees, suppliers, customers and other Applied’s divisions.
- Maintaining adequate field, industrial, and competitive contacts to anticipate or to keep abreast of developments in markets, products, services, prices, promotions, and other related fields

Operations Management

- Ensure ongoing assessment and evolution of organizational and management structure is in place to deliver on changing needs of the business and to successfully execute the business plan.
- Plan, control and direct regional/country-wide programs and activities related to Shop & Field Services including but not limited to:





Human Resources/People Strategy, Operational Excellence, Sales & Business Development, Customer Service, EHS, Quality, Talent Development, Finance.
- Evaluate the application of new market developments and recommending appropriate programs.
- Cultivate a climate of operational excellence by promoting continuous improvement initiatives across the various functions with the intent of increasing operational effectiveness and capital efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with other channel leaders within Canada to ensure success of day to day cross-channel operations (Service Centres, Technical Services etc)
- Maintain applicable external certification to support Company’s reputation (image)





and credibility as well as guaranteed robustness of internal management systems in place (e.g. ISO 9001).
- Ensuring that quality, processes, and customer relations are maintained at a high level by regularly visiting locations within your Shop network.
- Regular meetings with key stakeholders and Managers within region.
- People Leadership, Development, Coaching and Mentoring
- Mobilize and lead the Shop & Field Services management team to achieve the strategy and objectives, providing support and direction to ensure success.
- Show strong leadership and commitment to HSE with regular presence on the site.
- Ensure leadership and accountability in cyclical HR processes as well as playing an active role in Shop people strategies.
- Mentor,





coach and direct staff through the establishment of stretch goals and cohesive teamwork with a participatory and inclusive leadership style, utilizing collaborative leadership strengths to foster positive cultural change and inclusive, team-oriented success.
- Provide leadership regarding personnel training requirements across all roles within the Shop & Field Services division as well as playing a proactive role in talent development activities beneficial to the shop organization.

Financial Leadership

- Responsibility and accountability for the management of all financial resources of the shops ensuring that proper controls, budgetary processes, reporting, and analysis procedures are in place; monitoring and analyzing results, and implementing changes and improvements as required.






- Review and approve yearly CAPEX and OPEX budgets and be accountable for all expenses.
- Identify priorities for the Shop & Field Services division; ensure associated projects align with business objectives and budget availability; build supporting business cases when investment levels required them.
- Ensure that appropriate procurement. contract and purchasing policies are in place and controlled.
- Identify and anticipate risks, and costs associated with the risks, and develop plans to reduce risk profile and implement corrective action.

EHS Compliance

- Leading commitment, communications, and compliance within the Shop Organization with all relevant legislative requirements and the Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities specific to operations and in accordance with Applied’s standards and excellence; partnering with the EHS Team as needed.
- Review key EHS KPI’s on a regular basis; ensuring programs, policies and standards are being applied effectively and the operations are following HSE standards and legal requirements as directed by EHS resources.

Qualifications

- A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience managing multi-site repairs/fabrication shop operations including managing individuals with teams.
- Proven success of translating business vision into execution of tactical operational actions; identifying the highest impact initiatives to focus efforts by resource allocation according to strategy.
- Demonstrated success at leading teams across a geographically diverse organization.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with an ability to interact and influence across all areas of the business including senior management, functions, and employees at all levels within field and operations.
- Proven track record of driving best practices, improving productivity and profitability throughout operations with leading-edge management practices, cost reduction strategies and high-quality investment decisions.
- Demonstrated experience leading operational and culture/people change, including the ability to identify and execute on continuous improvement initiatives with direct business impact.
- Bearings, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Lubrication, Fluid Conveyance
- Mechanical Power Transmission Products, Material Handling

- Broad understanding of the products and solutions technologies offered by Applied Industrial Technologies, including but not limited to:
- History of successful engagement and involvement in people (talent and EHS) strategy execution, demonstrating ability to be proactive and drive change within these areas
- Bilingualism: French and English, spoken and written is a strong asset
