About The Role

We’re expanding our Advisory group and need a Principal Consultant for our Business Transformation / Operational Excellence team in Canada. AMC’s Advisory group connects technical solutions with commercial mining outcomes through comprehensive mine optimization advice. In this role, you will leverage your understanding of the entire mine value chain to explore and solve challenges in the mining industry, uncovering real value. You'll collaborate with expert consultants from across AMC, eager to share their knowledge.

- Analyze: Pinpoint areas for improvement through a 10x Performance Diagnostic, utilizing our Comparative Benchmarking SmartData system, advanced data analytics, and Best Practice Scorecard. Our SmartData system boasts mining cost and productivity data from over 300 different operations, employing the world’s most thorough site-specific dataset.
- Develop: Quantify and prioritize value opportunities, identify focus areas and intervention strategies, and establish a comprehensive implementation and change plan.
- Implement:





Activate and support client task teams, implement chosen initiatives, oversee major programs, and monitor progress.
- Sustain: Track value realization, transition support between AMC and the client, conduct post-implementation reviews, and reinforce changes to ensure they endure.

Our team also works closely with others in the business to:

- Conduct strategic workshops aimed at identifying optimization opportunities.
- Supply benchmarking data to aid in optimization, feasibility, and due diligence assessments.
- Create impactful executive messages and presentations.
- Design operational readiness studies and implementation plans.
- Establish frameworks for mine planning and business planning.

Who you will be working with

Derek du Preez is the Director / Executive Lead - Advisory.





He has over 30 years of experience with expertise in feasibility studies, technical due diligence, and business improvement and transformation of underground and open pit metalliferous mines.

You will report to Corné Yzelle, Advisory Lead - Business Transformation / Operational Excellence. Corné has 15 years of experience in the mining industry and her experience working in research, technology, industry, and consulting provides her with a unique skillset and the necessary experience to drive sustainable transformation in the mining industry.

Now a Bit More Information About The Role

You'll work in a well-established team, leveraging your expertise in the mining value chain and your strong analytical and communication skills to help clients transform their business.





You'll conduct thorough assessments of mining operations, identify opportunities for transformation, and often assist in implementing these programs. This typically involves site visits to understand current practices, engage with stakeholders, and gather information to find optimal solutions. While you'll use established tools, you're encouraged to innovate by introducing new ones or improving existing toolsets.

Occasionally, you'll also contribute to other business areas, such as strategy optimization, feasibility studies, technical reviews, and various Advisory projects. Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the mining industry and continue building your professional network. Your knowledge and relationships will help attract new business.







Core Functions And Specialist Skills Required

- Experience in both open pit and underground hard rock mining operations. Comprehensive understanding of a wide range of mine planning and operational practices throughout the mining value chain and support functions. Proficient knowledge of essential mining principles, such as cut-off grade policies, and estimation and modelling of mine capital and operating costs.
- Extensive practical experience with various business improvement methodologies, including Lean, Six-Sigma, and Theory of Constraints. Business acumen combined with strong technical, leadership, project management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to analyze complex information, extract crucial insights, and organize outcomes into clear,





easily understandable frameworks.
- Background in coaching and mentoring, along with a tendency toward business development. Experience managing client accounts and key relationships, with strong influencing and negotiation skills. Superior communication and report writing abilities, capable of effectively conveying critical observations, strategies, and recommendations in both oral and written formats.
- Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, complemented by good interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams across different time zones. Excellent time management skills ensuring efficient work in a dynamic consulting environment. Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Additional skills that will be beneficial:

- Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel, facilitation and presentation building, along with experience or knowledge of embedded and emerging mining technologies.

Qualifications and experience

- Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent plus an MBA from a leading university is preferred.
- At least 15+ years of experience in the mining industry (encompassing technical and/or operational roles), ideally combined with 5+ years working with a leading management consulting firm.
- Proven track record of generating and maintaining a consistent client base.
- Affiliation with a professionally recognized industry organization.

Salary

Salary Range: C$170,000 to C$190,000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
