As the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of RPAS within the Calgary Police Service (CPS). You will maintain the administrative requirements for pilots and aircraft according to the Canadian Aviation Regulations. Specific duties include:
- Coordinate the response of RPAS pilots to calls for service.
- Maintain a cadre of pilots to respond to calls for service.
- Ensure pilots skills are current and provide regular updates on regulatory changes.
- Manage and implement training programs for certification and flight skills.
- Maintain a database of pilot certificates, aircraft registration certificates, and other documentation as required by the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
- Collaborate with internal partners to educate them on RPAS functions and limitations, and evaluate their requirements for RPAS.
- Engage with external partners, including Transport Canada, NAV Canada, and other emergency service providers regarding RPAS issues and changes to the regulatory sphere.
Working Conditions: Expose to emotionally disturbing events such as serious injury and death.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. G.E.D.) plus a Pilot Certificate for Small RPAS Advanced Operations with a Flight Reviewer rating from Transport Canada.
- A minimum of 5 years related experience as an RPAS pilot including 1 year experience as a flight reviewer is required.
- Success in this position requires: Coaching and development, communication, efficiency and thoroughness, planning and prioritizing/visionary; relationship building, self-confidence, service orientation.
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
