What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities
· Experience and/or desire to work with newcomer youth.
· Experience in leading and running groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy and job-searching skills.
· Initiative and a strong work ethic
· Strong team-work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision.
· Critical thinking skills
· Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
· Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed)
· Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
· Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and responsibilities include:
· Work part-time, year-round, in two dynamic programs (YMAP and Infinity) offering support and positive experiences for high school and post-secondary students
· Independently deliver after-school sessions in-person and online three days each week from October to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels, with some weekends as needed
· Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August.
· Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs.
· Deliver topics including self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness.
· Work within a team of YMAP Coordinators.
· Help organize special events for youth.
· Recruit participants through in-school presentations and one-on-one interviews
· Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories.
· Support program evaluation.
· Provide drop-in and referrals for participants when needed.
· Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations.
· Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community.
· Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
· Be based out of the Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot
