The program aims to connect asylum seekers and refugee claimants with essential services in the community. These services include reception services and temporary accommodation at Wesley Reception Centre, assistance with locating permanent accommodation, needs assessment and referrals to other settlement programs and community-based services, and information and orientation on financial and non-financial information.

The Asylum Seekers Assistance Program Worker will ensure the smooth delivery of all these services and other urgent needs clients may have while staying in temporary accommodations.

- Assisting clients with booking Refugee Medical Exam (RME) and other IRCC-required applications.

- Connecting clients with healthcare providers and mental health support when needed.

- Prepare and set up clients' rooms before their arrival.

- Conduct an initial ASAP needs assessment to identify immediate resettlement needs and determine which services,

are required to meet these needs during the client’s stay in temporary accommodations.

- Provide orientation and link to essential federal/provincial programs and services so the clients can understand and access fundamental services like all other asylum seekers.

- Plan for the necessary number of staff and interpreters on arrival day, depending on the client's language, age, physical and mental health, or any experience of trauma based on information provided by the shelter where the client(s) was staying.

- Conduct regular room checks to ensure clients' rooms are in good condition and report any damages.

- Work rotating shifts as required.

- Work under a lens of integration with other Wesley programs to ensure efficiencies are realized through evidence-based practices.

- Maintain required participation records and relevant program statistics, continuously looking for efficiencies to implement within the program.

- Ensure that records are kept confidential and secure at all times.

- Report and communicate progress strategies, challenges, and program status to the management team.
