Reporting to the Manager, Advancement Communications, the incumbent creates meaningful, engaging content that drives engagement and supports efforts of the Advancement team to generate fundraising and other private revenue. The incumbent will be responsible for researching, developing and producing major gift proposals, cases for support, backgrounders, campaign collateral, impact reports and other strategic communications targeted to prospective donors and alumni. Working closely with subject matter experts across Sheridan, Advancement colleagues and members of the Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs (CPAM) team,





the incumbent supports fundraising goals and priorities by creating content that will engage internal and external audiences. The incumbent develops and oversees content plans and strategies to produce monthly digital newsletters, news articles, web content, digital publications, and press releases that engage Advancement’s audiences to enhance Sheridan’s reputation and drive fundraising revenue generation.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Creating content including cases for support, major gift proposals, backgrounders, campaign collateral, impact reports, news announcements, web and social media content, profiles, digital publications and award nominations;
- Creating the annual editorial calendars to support Advancement communications;
- Researching and sourcing stories that showcase donor impact across Sheridan and creating content and communications campaigns to showcase that impact;
- Working with photographers and videographers as needed to produce multi-media content that will engage Advancement audiences;






- Researching and writing award nominations in support of advancing Advancement’s engagement activities;
- Maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the process of creating content to facilitate interviews, editing and approvals of content;
- Evaluating metrics (e.g., web analytics, digital publication metrics) to determine a publication’s relevance to audiences;
- Acting as an advisor to edit departmental publications as required to ensure content (style, grammar, length) follows established corporate style and Canadian Press style;
- Writing speaking remarks and event invitations in support of Advancement events;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You







You bring proven experience as a highly skilled writer and editor with an understanding of content strategy and content development for a variety of audiences.

You have a highly collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others to support establishing and achieving collective goals.

You have an ability to research and analyze complex information and think critically towards solving problems.

Your excellent written and oral communication skills allow you to elicit accurate information when conducting interviews.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

- Possess a 4-year degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Creative Writing or related field of study;
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of intensive, comprehensive experience in writing, editing,





interviewing and managing editorial production for print and online channels, including digital publications and social media platforms;
- Required experience includes a writing portfolio for public audiences through online or traditional media;
- A high degree of technical competency and proficiency using word processing programs, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email, databases, software for websites, blogs and social media platforms is required; and digital communications platforms is required;
- Minimum of three years’ experience working with alumni, donor, or non-profit communities is preferred.
